Subject: RE: Words to From: alison Date: 21 Sep 98 - 02:56 AM Hi, clannad did a song called Newgrange, on their magical ring CD, could it be the same one. "There is a ring, mysterious ring of stones." Slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Words to From: Liam Date: 22 Sep 98 - 08:26 AM Dear Alison No doubt the Clannad song is referring to the same magical place in Ireland. Whether or not it is the same song I do not know at this stage!! Cheerio, Liam.

Subject: Lyr Add: NEWGRANGE (Clannad) From: Susan-Marie Date: 22 Sep 98 - 12:44 PM Here's Clannad's version, see if it's what you're looking for:
There is a place on the east
Chorus: Rum de rum 'rud a derimo
The circled tomb of a different age
Wait for the sun on a winter's day |
Subject: Lyr Add: NEWGRANGE (Wolfe Tones) From: Big Mick Lane Date: 23 Sep 98 - 12:27 AM I found an old Wolfe Tones program from their 25th Anniversary tour and it lists the words for many of their songs including "Newgrange", so here you go.
Your mysteries lay hidden in stones that can't speak,
chorus:
Sing away Bru/ na Bo/inne on the Banks of the Boyne,
From your pillars of grandeur and the answer is sought, Chorus:
For you're set in a county still Royal with its arms Chorus: All the best, Mick

Subject: RE: Words to From: alison Date: 23 Sep 98 - 04:55 AM Hi, Just as an aside, it's a great place to visit. The last time I was there they had a light set up to mimic the rays of the sun. On one specific day of the year (possibly December)the angle of the sun at dawn causes light to go through a little slit above the door and the ray travels slowly up through the passageway until it illuminates the burial chamber itself. (Very Indiana Jones!!!) It is most impressive..... people book ahead for years to be there on that specific morning to see it occur. Any chance of the tune? slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Words to From: Big Mick Date: 23 Sep 98 - 09:02 AM hi alison, If I knew how to use my gobshite computer, I would hum or play the tune into the computer, or take it off the CD as a .wav file. Unfortunately I do not know how to do it. It is a perfectly lovely song. If you know anyone who has the Wolfe Tones 25th Anniversary CD, it is on there. It is on the second CD, track 4. I have Voyetra for my mixing package on the computer. Supposedly I can record .wav and digital audio files. I just can't figure out how. All the best, Mick |

Subject: RE: Words to "Newgrange" by The Wolftones From: Reiver 2 Date: 05 Oct 03 - 05:36 PM I'd not heard of this song before. Have a couple of Wolf Tone 33 1/3 records, but it's not on them. I'll have to look for it, having visited New Grange 2 years ago. I agree with Alison, it's a fascinating place. And, yes, it's at dawn on Dec. 21st or 22nd (anyway, the winter solstice) that the beam of light shines through. Remarkable. Reiver 2 |
