(last year close to 4 hrs. long) Feb. 20 - 21, 2004, Sean-Nós Milwaukee Weekend Friday, February 20, 4:00 pm Singer and author Virginia Stevens Blankenhorn will kick off this event by addressing the roots of modern sean-nós song meter going back to the 17th century. Virginia's recent book Irish Song-Craft and Metrical Practice Since 1600 was published in 2003. (UW-Milwaukee's Greene Hall, free and open to the public.) Friday, February 20, 7:30 pm Sean-nós concert - Fáilte Romhat! Join us for the best of Irish traditional singing. This special gathering of sean-nós singers will be recorded by Irish radio, and will include performances by Lillis Ó Laoire, Celia Ní Fhathartaigh, Áine Meenaghan, Meaití Jó Sheamuis, Máirín Uí Cheide and more! (UWM's Peck School of the Arts Recital Hall, $5 at the door.) Saturday, February 21, 11:00 am - 3:30 pm Workshops - Learn more about the history and performance of sean-nós singing, and take a song or two away with you! ($10 fee per workshop.) Details on location and tutors available at lecture and concert. Saturday, February 21, 8:00 pm Irish Music Session - Join our guests and local musicians as we end this exciting weekend with a traditional pub session. All are welcome!
