I think probably as they sing a cappella and not with guitar accompaniment the chord won't be as easy as just strumming along. It gives you the freedom to make up chords as you see fit!

I can't imagine anyone on the net having put chords up to their songs as they are usually sung unaccompanied!

Which song in particular are you looking for?

Any; but Falling Slowly would be a good one.

I've heard choirs in the UK do a simpler arrangement of that song than the one that appears on the recording. Great song, isn't it?

I can only suggest contacting them via their webpage. They may have chords written up somewhere.

Good luck!

The tricky bit is realising that the melody switches from one voice to another on their songs - according to Lester.

Start with the bass note.

If you pick out the melody on the guitar it often helps to find the chord that it fits in to.

I think I've got it for 'Polly' and '24-7' but I wouldnt want to swear to it.
There are subtlties that take a while to work out.

Good luck, be patient.

I've found chasing the melody around a quite difficult prospect with CBS, as much as I love their stuff. We put together a two-part version of "Lay me low", but didn't make any attempt to copy their arrangement (there are three of them and only two of us).

It should be possible to do the (admittedly labourious) "sit at the piano and figure out the notes while constantly pausing the tape" method of transcription.

Best of luck.

You could try the following chord progression for the verse:

Am G G/B bass    Am

4 or is it 8 times?

then the chorus

                C
yes the glass is rising

                   G                   Em
and the temperature's high

       F            G          Am
but I'm still falling slowly

If anyone can help me, I appreciate it!!

There aren't any written forms of Coope Boyes & Simpson songs showing the harmonies they actually sing themselves because they work out their harmonies by ear. Breezy's advice is probably the best approach.

I have difficulty understanding why so many people hear unaccompanied songs and immediately want The Chords !

You might as well ask why Coope Boyes and Simpson hear Nic Jones and try to reproduce the chords. It's because they both have the musical skill to affect their audiences emotionally.

Coope Boyes and Simpson got their tour off to a great start at Bury last night. The Cool of the Day was a striking introduction to a set-list covering their whole history. Some seldom-heard gems were dusted off and sparkled in the spotlight.

Their First World War songs featured, of course, and these are assuming greater significance as the centenary of the 1914-18 war approaches.

There are, of course, chords in CBS's songs, but they are sung and not played. If you want to sing one of the songs as a solo, I can see that a guitar accompaniment might be a way of keeping the harmonies they use.

One way to work them out would be the same way they put them together - by ear. If you listen to a recording using headphones, this can make it easier to untangle the parts and hear what's going on. If you can do that (or find someone to do it for you or with you) and identify the chords, there's nothing to stop you writing the chords down, either in tablature or in staff notation, for your own purposes.
