Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Oreo Cookie Blues From: Stewie Date: 09 Feb 04 - 08:02 PM Great song. You can find Mack's original on Lonnie Mack 'Strike Like Lightning' Alligator ALCD [1985]. The track has Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bill McIntosh helping out on National steel and slide respectively. Composer credits given a 'Mack/Wilkinson'. 'Next best thing to nooky, blues'. I took 'nooky' to have the same meaning as it does in Oz - 'sex'. --Stewie. |
Subject: Lyr Add: OREO COOKIE BLUES (Lonnie Mack) From: Sorcha Date: 09 Feb 04 - 11:26 AM Music by: Lonnie Mack Line up: Gerald Clark - lead vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica Almuir Botha - lead guitar Riaan Nieuwenhuis - keyboards Schalk van der Merwe - bass Alida Stadler - drums Chocolate on my fingers, icing on my lips, Sugar diabetes, and blubber on my hips I keep the night-light burning in the kitchen, darling, so I can go downstairs and cruise. I got the Oreo-Cream-Sandwich-Chocolate-covered-cream-filled-cookie blues Hide it in my cabinet, keep it in the jar, For, Lord have mercy, since I keep it in the glove compartment of my car. Can't live without them. They get me higher than I can get on booze. I got the Oreo-Cream-Sandwich-Chocolate-covered-cream-filled-cookie blues (Solo) Doctor says I'm crazy. "You better give 'em up-a-quick Or you've been pushing up daisies. Come on, you're dreadfully sick." But I couldn't quit them if I want to. No, I don't wanna lose. I got the Oreo Cream Sandwich (now watch out) chocolate covered cream filled cookie Built by Nabisco - ain't no rookie Next best thing to nookie Notes: "Oreo Cookie Blues" don't at all sound like the original, the band is tight, fast and whipping it up behind Clark's harmonica and energetic, soaring vocals, Almuir's guitar playing sparse and controlled throughout this recording. His styling falls somewhere outside of the traditional rhythm and lead playing, and is generally blues cliché free. http://www.afrimusik.com/bands/deltablue/live/track04 |
Subject: Lyr Req: Oreo Cookie Blues From: GUEST,Grizzly Date: 09 Feb 04 - 10:20 AM I saw Lonnie Mack at the Montreal Jazz Festival about 10 years ago and greatly enjoyed this song. It was brought to mind this past weekend when I heard a cover version on "Vinyl Cafe". Anyone know where I can get the lyrics? |
