The seagull cost me £380.00 from new. The melodeon was about £350.00 and was also new. Both are in very good condition. I've never used e-bay and am a bit wary of it.

My shops dont sell em so whose stocking them?

Sorry to sound like a boffin, but Seagull's are not mass produced tosh,they are handcrafted in Canada by the same people that make Simon & Patrick,Art and Lutherie and Norman.
They have either Honduras Spruce Tops or Spruce Maple Tops, with Cedar Backs and Sides, very nice guitars, if its an electro acoustic it usually has b'band pickups with a 3 band EQ.When brought new they have gig bags/foam cases.Fantastic guitars, no idea why someone would want to sell it.

I can't muddle through, I have no money, I must eat and I have bills to pay - its as simple as that. And I don't think Seagull make a bad model. Any way I don't play often enough, perhaps someone else will make better use of it.

Fair Enough, if your skint, your skint, however I do also agree with barnacle bill, if you have a guitar why not busk and make a constant stream of money.

and your right, Seagull donot make bad models, if you brought it for £350 and its new, then it will probably be the S6 .
The standard dreadnaught Seagull, Cedar top with either mahogany or cedar sides/back.

By the way guys, im only a boffin because I work in a music shop.
Im not inteligent or anything,afterall i'am a guitarist!

Dave of mawkin, Hand crafted is a suitably vague term. Technically both Martins and Seagulls are handcrafted, and I know which I'd rather have! I've also had a shop and am a qualified repairer.

Ebay is a very trustworthy way to sell . I have had wonderful luck selling good instruments on ebay. So you really don't need to be leary of ebay. Good Luck !

I have a Guild A25 (a small Guild model that was only made for a short time in '96-'97) that I'm trying to sell, and I had a party interested at an asking price a little under US$300, without the case. The prospective buyer wanted to know if I had any pictures. I didn't, but I thought I could find a picture of one that I could send him to give him an idea what it looked like, so I Googled "Guild A-25" and found a picture here.

The guy wants 795 British Pounds for the thing! That's 1100 or 1200 bucks! I ought to send all my used instruments that I want to sell, over there! I could get rich!

Clinton, it's a personal thang ain't it? Lots of people just lurve Taylors but I wouldn't swop one for either my Lowden or my Martin. Never heard a Seagull I particularly liked either, but the one I really don't get is Fylde - folkies rave about them here in the UK and they sure do look nice, but I've never heard one that didn't sound (to me at least) like a wardrobe.

Fairpoint Davy, Handcrafted is a vague term,Martin guitars are handcrafted as are seagulls,Simon & Patrick and Normans.

I wasnt disputing which guitar make is better, because i dont care which one is better, as Johnny says, its a matter of opinion.
I personally think Martin's sound shite unless they are the old ones or you spend £1000+ so realistically I go for a guitar that gives me instant gratification, a Simon & Patrick.

You do well to be wary of ebay.... but mainly for buying.

I've had some good deals - but have also been ripped off...

So make sure if you put it on ebay as said put some photo's on and describe any faults, problems - don't forget that ding that you don't notice anymore.....

If you bought it from a typical guitar shop (not discounted) - it will be worth half what you paid for it as a trade-in (no use to you) and on the secondhand market half to two thirds of the best discount price - if in mint condition and with the right buyer.

I have seen secondhand items fetch more than retail price on eBay - so either a lot of eBayers don't do their homework or just get Bidding Fever! - either way that can be good for you as the seller - but don't forget eBay charges and Paypal if you use it.

Why do so many threads drift off into the "my guitar is better than yours" - "so and so's are rubbish" etc????? what the - does it matter?

I both buy and sell without problems om ebay as do hundreds of others.

My advice is to get the feel of ebay first........go on daily......look at guitars and melodeons on sale for about a week. I can help you write a description if you like.

If you're skint temporarily don't sell it, pawn it. I've done that in the past and got it back ASAP.
Busking isn't a bad idea either. Try the melodion. The great British public don't see them too often and you may well make more because of it's curiosity value.

Mawkin Dave, Jonny (my partner in crime) plays a Martin. He graduated from a Simon & Patrick (who I believe make Seagull or did, or something, but are very similar) and I that's what you play? Does that mean that you think that Jonny's sound is shite?

Not many Pawn shops in the UK nowadays...

several scams on eBay including many many Martin scams you only need to go to Martin Unofficial Guitar Forum and read the reports there.... and although I've only had two bad expieriences as a buyer in 4 years - I would still advise buyer to be wary even when you read the "feedback" you can get caught - one of the sellers who ripped me off had 50 feedbacks with a 100% rating!! - I reiterate "Buyer be ware" - the main agro with selling is false bidders and non-payers..

Jonny did used to play an S&P 12 string and 6 string, his the one that got me hooked! I love Jonnys sound! Except for that shite guitar he plays! (hehehe)
No Jonny's martin sounds good, but he did pay a shed load of cash for it, and it isnt exactly one of the new crap ones.
Dont get me wrong, Martins are by no means shite, just the cheap ones are (compared to what you can get from S&P for the same price.)

Anyway, I see you guys are playing at Broastairs, I might have to come to Jonny's workshop in order to tell him how to tune his guitar in.

The gloves are off, and Im ready for a spanking.

What model of Seagul was she? Have you looked into getting the neck simply replaced? Might be cheaper... and Seagull should be able to replace it withthe exact same neck it had... Call Seagull directly...

I believe that she's a model s-6 from 1988 or 89...I looked at the Seagul website, but I wasn't sure what they would do or if it would be worth it...she wasn't a very expensive guitar and she's rather worn...

I still have everything to it...in fact it's still mostly playable (just not good for onstage...it's a nice crack from the bolt through the back of the neck.

I don't know waht I'm planning on doing with her...

should I be afraid to ask what you would do?

Sounds to me like it SHOULD be a repair that any good luthier should be able to pull off... That's guessing without actually seeing it...

What I would do? Well, if it was fixable, I'd fix it... if it was replaceable, and not prohibitively expensive, I'd replace it...

If it was gonna cost too much ot fix properly or replace, I imagine I'd retire it to 'art' or 'shrine' rather than continue to play it and risk completely destroying it...
