Subject: Lyr Req: Johnny McEvoy Song?
From: Tiocfaidh

Hello all.

I heard a group playing a song, a while ago, that they said they thought Johnny McEvoy wrote.
It goes to the tune of 'The Old Orange Flute', and the only part I remember of it, is the chorus:

"Too ra loo, too ra la
It's a long way from Ireland to Afghanistan.
Too ra loo, too ra la
Osama Bin Laden, and the oul' Taliban"

I would really love to know where I could get a copy of the words, as it is totally hilarious. I've scoured the internet near and far, and there's no mention of it on Johnny's website.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Botticelli

I cannot answer you exactly but Simon Hindley does a fantastic parody of er...something or other, you'll know the one, called 'I Wanna Be A Taliban' which never fails to bring the house down. Will that do?

Sure it's Johnny McEvoy's? I've a feeling Joe Mulherron of Derry wrote something along those lines..

Regards

I heard a song a few months ago in a session in Dublin that started:

"Come all you bold heroes of Afghanistan"

which mentioned Taliban, etc., but can't remember any more about it right now. Very funny--I'll try to contact the singer.

Don

Can't wait to see the lyrics for this one!! Love Johnny to bits, can't stop listening to his albums on my MP3. Have spent £££s downloading and purchasing his albums. The song I like most at the moment is "Avondale", just can't stop singing it. Getting some very funny looks at work!! I also like "Rose of Allendale" and love "Michael" as well. Would just love to see Johnny perform live, and to meet him in person.
I can get most of his lyrics for anyone, from my CDs, so don't hesitate to ask. e-mail me at: anna@g8ajn.tv

Somewhat belatedly, can I confess that the Joe Mulherron song I was thinking of, back in 2004 was The Wee White Turban of the PLO! The video is impenetrable - and Joe's accent takes practice - but it's still very funny!

Maybe Johnny McEvoy didn't have a web site when this thread was started, but he has one now: http://www.johnnymcevoy.net.

I didn't see a master list of all his songs, or any lyrics, but there are 26 videos.
