As I recall from last year's announcement of this event this is a gathering of the old time fiddlers, am I correct? Can you include
more information about the organizations which is hosting this event?
And is there any thing else going on such as performances or concerts or a contest? Looking forward to hearing more. If someone would like to come and stay in the R.V. area who would you contact if you want to make a reservation?

Open Mike This event is the State Convention of the Oregon Old time Fiddlers Assosiation, but anyone who wants to stop and jam is welcome.A little more about our programs during the 4 days.On Wednesday April 7 we start jamming at 8 AM until 7 PM then we have a sign up jam and anyone who wishes to sign up whether a member or not will be able to appear on stage and sing, play fiddle mandolin Banjo bass accordion, harmonica or any other acoustic instrument that they may have(no electric instruments) or if you have some other talent this is acceptable too.You don't have to worry about backup there are many good backup players available and you pick your own.On thursday April 8 basically the same type of program. On Friday April 9 we jam from 8 AM until 7 PM then we have an invitational program consisting of the better musician and vocalist from around the state and this program last about 4 hours and is a barn burner. The public is invited to all of these events. On saturday the program is limited to the OOTFA members and guests and we have our meetings election of officers Banquet and dance. They don't take reservations for RV parking at the Fairgrounds but there has always been plenty of parking for RV both on the blacktop with no hook ups and the other location with all hook ups. There are other excellent RV parks in the area. You can also contact me with a PM or email at roy1@computerconnect.net for any other info you want since I am the coordinator for this event and have been since 1992.Louie Roy

Oops, hit that enter button too soon!

What I meant to say is that this sounds like a hoot. I especially like that they seem so open to allow "any" acoustic instrumentation, as I play a number of things, er.... (I'm guessin' they're instruments, in the right hands).... that don't fit neatly into any particular format, category or style. I end up getting the hairy eyeball from some due to the many preconceived attitudes by some folks concerning the original or intended use of these items. Innovation can, and often does, spawn this sort of response. It's only via continued persistence that we, who choose to push the boundaries of acceptability, can hope to sway these opinions. Louie, I very much appreciate your overtures regarding openness.

I'd love to learn to play fiddle and have several but I'm afraid my explorations have not led me in that direction as of yet. Some day soon I hope to have more of a chance to get more deeply involved with it.
