I think its great that Hamish and Lorna are guests this week.

Hamish has done some great 'spots' over the past months and its going to be good to see singers of this calibre performing in their own right.

There are worse performers than Hamish, and Lorna is well worth looking at too. AND she can sing.

Hamish Currie
is a very good guitarist with a superb repertoire of quality songs delivered in a relaxed and slightly laid back manner.
He is talented at harmonising and takes time to prepare his songs with care.
He exhibits a calm stage presence and his put downs to would be hecklers demonstrate a sharp wit.
His sound and style is easy on the ear and I'm delighted to find someone so close to home whom I know to be very popular with his peers.
He is very much an underestimated performer and taken for granted by those who tend tosee him on a regular basis.
He is well worth booking.
And though he be a Scottie I can understand him totally.
And he possesses a quality guitar.

Am a bit worried about Breezy, has he had a bump on the head or something?

I am of the opinion that Hamish always has had the right to perform on his own, but his performances with the Lovely Lorna are always worth listening to....

Am sorry I'll miss this gig, have fun all!!!

I saw them at Stortfolk yesterday, they were excellent, go tonight is my recommendation.

I blush.

Jonno - can I use that testimonial in my publicity?

Terry - I think I'll probably not use the "there are worse performers" quote!

Chris - Stortfolk was great: and thanks for coming along. Loved the Laughing Chairs spot. It's a really nice club, and that's my second gig there and they have both been wonderful fun. A really responsive audience.

Looking forward to tonight. Hamish and Lorna are a treat, and Hamish's arrangements always cut through the mundane to get straight to the interesting. And they are both easy on the eye and on the ear (let's not be sexist here, Hamish wears his 40 years very well). And yes, Hamish does have a Carthy-like precision to his guitar playing. It must be all this prac***ing he does.
Can I request "slipjigs", please?

"Wears his 40 years very well" - that made me laugh out loud! Thanks for starting a very early Friday morning like that. (It was close to 1 am when I de-Storted, and 5.43 this morning when the alram went off seemed rather soon.)

And, yes - it never hurts to ask.

Think I'll open the proceedings tonight with a collage of Steve Tilston's hits featuring the one about the boy who emigrates with 10 bob in his coat, not that he could have spent it over there mind.

Cracking night. The room stuffed with bodies and Hamish & Lorna at their best (so where was that sore throat Lorna?). Once Breezy took control of the rabble and they quietened down, H&L produced a well thought-out 1st set to show off H's great guitar technique and soulful singing, with L coming in to add sparkle and vibrancy.
I did 3 "gee-up" numbers to start the 2nd half, Mike Sparks gave us the "St Albans Anthem" (John Ball), Chris Flegg once more came close to having his fingers broken (Hamish: "Your guitar has more chords than mine, Chris") and Tim Brooks (1st time at St Al's but well familiar to Herga-ites) showed off some of the best trad fiddle playing around - to the right tempo and with loadsafeeling. And then another cracking set from H&L (we should have turned up the heat more though, insufficient number of clothing items discarded).
A great night to show the King Harry lot what they will be missing to the Duke of Marlborough's gain from now on...

Gosh - I blush again, George. I'm going to have to use this whole thread in publicity packs in future. Well, except for Terry's underwhelming endorsement maybe.

And thanks to all who turned out and played their parts: cheers
