there is a song I heard a long time ago that starts out talking about a song the singers grandmother sang. then goes into an apallations still chorus 'come a hye hye he and a dipy dipy dove round the woods the bow wow wow' or something like that. It really stuck in my mind and I wounder if anyone knows the words and who sang or wrote it.

I think the song that you're looking for is called Berayna. It has been recently recorded by Custer La Rue on the album A true lovers Farewell. It has that chorus Hip hip hip and a hi ho down the narrow track a whoop whoop whoop etc.. I'd copy down the lyrics for you except that I seem to have mislaid my album inset with them all. I hope this helps.

I haven't heard Ms. LaRue sing it, but it sounds strangely like a version that Marais and Miranda used to perform. I'll bet that Berayna is a corruption of Beau Reynard.

Hi, I've got a version of something very similar to Dick's, called

THREE JOLLY SPORTSMEN

I'm in a group called Brimstone and Treacle which sings three part unaccompanied traditional Anglo-Celtic songs. We've done a presentation called "Hunting Songs of the British Isles" at a couple of festivals. Anyone interested in more of this ilk let me know.

I'm certianly interest the sort of song you suplied, but the song I was looking for was a song about a song. The song it was about may have been that or some song with a common ansester. I did hear it done on the tv show Nashvile Now a few years agoe, but didn't get the singers name.

This unsolved request has been bothering me, because I think I have heard the song that was requested. It was sometime in the early 80's on Austin City Limits. The best I can come up with is that it might be "Grandma's Song" by Gail Davies. I searched the net for lyrics, but found none. I did find out that she had been on ACL about 1982, although I could have seen a rerun. She did haved a song by that name on a 1979 album. Maybe this will jog the memory of someone else. Otherwise check out the country music section to see if any of her material has been reissued on CD, or head for the nearest used record store. Sorry this is as incomplete as it is. I hope you find it.

I've only heard this song three or four times but it stuck with me. A couple of time I heard it on the radio, and mabe 5,6 years agoe I heard it on Nashvile Now. I glad to get a lead. Sounds like a prity good chance thats the one I'm looking for. Funny really, it doesn't sound like my gandma, but it makes me think of her. This is a song that just gabed me by the heart. I can't thank you enough.
