Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: VIN Date: 02 Mar 04 - 08:08 AM Will try and be there at some point 'especially' as i can't make the normal Sunday 'star' club due to distance, transport etc. Always found the 'Open Door' club in the past (especially the extravaganzas) good value, friendly and welcoming ('specially to non-regulars) - GOOD MUSIC, NICE FOLKS AND GOOD CRAIC! those contributors to the 'role of folk clubs today' thread please note! |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: Mark Dowding Date: 02 Mar 04 - 03:47 PM I'll be there on the Saturday and maybe Sunday if I can get a pass out from the Wooden Horse folk club! Cheers Mark |

Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: GUEST,Mick Date: 04 Mar 04 - 07:09 AM Doesn't Harry Basnett usually start these threads? |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: flatcap Date: 05 Mar 04 - 01:07 PM He would have been welcome to start it, but we've not heard from him ! |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: Bernard Date: 06 Mar 04 - 08:51 AM Harry is 'taking a break' for a little while. He had a rather nasty virus (medical!) for a few weeks, during which time he decided to give up smoking. The virus has now cleared, and he's still not smoking, but the enthusiasm to get back into the 'Folk Scene' is taking its time to recover. On the up side, he's not worn out at work on a Monday mnorning, and is spending more quality time with his family. We wish both Sara and Harry well, and hope to see them soon - in yer own time, Harry! Meanwhile, keep yer eye on the Open Door website for details about Extravaganza 6!! |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: My guru always said Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:00 AM 'Fraid I won't be able to get along to this one, am really sorry to miss it! Will try to get to the next one - October?? Hope you guys all have a Fab weekend!! So sorry to hear that Harry's not been well, but brilliant that he's given up smoking whatever the circumstances!! Love & positive thoughts to Harry (& Sara too) for a speedy recovery! Hil x |

Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: Bernard Date: 16 Mar 04 - 05:44 AM Not long to go, now!! There's a daft song on Debra Cowan's website for you to download - will you be singing it for us at the Extravaganza, chuck?! |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: DebC Date: 16 Mar 04 - 07:42 AM I certainly will, Bernard. One of the things I love about singing in folk clubs in the UK is that everybody sings! I was going to suggest that anyone attending the Extravaganza should download "Good Fish Chowder" so they can learn the chorus. But then I remembered what quick studies you all are over there :-) I leave this afternoon from Boston where we are supposed to have the second worst snow storm of the season. Looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks! And REALLY looking forward to Spiers and Boden. Have heard them on CD but not live. Deb Cowan |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: Pied Piper Date: 16 Mar 04 - 07:47 AM Is there a location for an instrumenal session? TTFN PP |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: Bernard Date: 16 Mar 04 - 07:06 PM DebC... Already learned it, chuck! Wiv me best operatic tenor voice especially for that last line...!! ;@) This will be Spiers & Boden's THIRD appearance at the Open Door! If you think they're good on CD, they're 100% better live!! For one thing, their enthusiasm isn't diluted by electronics!! PP: No, as we are all in one room. We alternate singarounds and guest spots throughout the weekend, but a dedicated session of any description isn't practical. There's no reason why them as wants shouldn't have an impromptu session during beer breaks, though - about 15 minutes each time. We'd love to see you there! |

Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: 8_Pints Date: 21 Mar 04 - 08:32 AM Sorry we won't be able to join you at this one but it clashes with the National Folk Festival in Loughborough. Add our best wishes to Harry and Sara. Have a great time, see you soon. Sue vG and 8_Pints |

Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: Bernard Date: 01 Apr 04 - 08:08 PM So where was everyone? It's so sad... people bemoan the lack of folk clubs, yet couldn't support one that is there and providing a glittering variety of excellent guests... Those of us who were there had a great weekend of enjoyment of a wide range of Folk - a pity the club's healthy bank balance had to be wiped out to subsidise it. The Open Door was the first club to offer Spiers and Boden a festival booking - they were back for the third year in succession, with only a dozen or so in the audience. It is no exaggeration to say the guest total actually exceeded the audience... four members of Dulaman, six in Slide, Spiers and Boden, Debra Cowan and Roy Bailey - fourteen in total, plus a few of their 'entourage'... It looks as if the October Extravaganza will be seriously cut down... if it goes ahead. |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: My guru always said Date: 02 Apr 04 - 05:09 AM Oh I'm so sorry that it wasn't well supported this time Bernard. I wish I could have come up to make up the numbers. I've really enjoyed the Extravagana's I've been to & hope that you'll be able to manage to October one - maybe the date for the March one clashed too badly with other events. Keep your chin up Bernard - you guys have a wonderful club & organise an excellent event! Positive thoughts & love to all, Hil |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: Zany Mouse Date: 02 Apr 04 - 05:15 AM Oh Bernard, I'm sssoooo sorry. It clashed with several things for us otherwise we had intended to be there. I sincerely hope it goes ahead in October and we will certainly try to get along for the whole weekend. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: VIN Date: 02 Apr 04 - 05:54 AM Sorry i could'nt get there for the Sat event but thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday session despite the low turn-out. Some brill playing/singing from Slide, Kathy Craig's voice blending superbly with the magic guitar playing from Brian Willoughby with the legendary Roy Bailey to finish off an excellent day. So very much thanks to Pauline & John, Dave Jones and of course the sound mixer maestro Bernard (played some nifty accordion too). Will try and get to the Sunday club at some point and hope October goes ahead. Cheers, Vin |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: George Papavgeris Date: 02 Apr 04 - 07:47 AM I'm sorry too for not making it - but I had a commitment Sunday, and I had only arrived late Friday from Houston, jetlagged and knackered... |
Subject: RE: Extravaganza 6 - Opendoor, Failsworth From: flatcap Date: 02 Apr 04 - 12:49 PM Thanks Bernard, you summed it up perfectly. We may be down, but we're certainly not out ! We didn't start off with much,so here goes second time round..... |
