RIVER LADY
(by: ?. Adams.)

The day the river freezes is the day it won't seem fair,
For they'll come to get the River Lady, and I don't think they'll care,
I know they'll scrape her paint off in their same old foolish way,
Now the people see the river, but the old ship's gone away.

Chorus:

Water turns cold, and gets to freezing,
Before you even know it the old girl's easing,
Away from her berth, around by the point, and out of our view.
Off in the mist her engines pounding,
Back on the banks that old horn's sounding,
A little "Goodbye.", a little "I'll do what I must do." (repeat line)

I know I will remember when I cannot hear that horn,
That would roll up by the mountains, as she took us through the storm,
I know they've got to take her, but I can't say I approve,
'Cause she's won so many battles, that I hate to see her lose.

NOTE: I would love to know who the writer "Adams" is.

Regards,

Shimbo

Any clue what the tune is? Looks like it might be an interesting song. Any other notes of its origin?

This site and this site say it's Greg Adams.

AMG - All Music Guide lists a Greg Adams who has worked with Roger Whittaker. Bingo!

Does anyone have the sheet music for this? The above links don't work for me (they're old, of course). A tenor banjo/octave mandolin student wants it badly.

Is it true that Greg Adams lives in Ontario Canada?

Thanks.

Peace, Mooh.

RIVER LADY

The day the river freezes is the day it won't seem fair,
'Cause they'll come to get the River Lady and I don't think they'll care.
I know they'll scrape her paint off in their same old foolish ways.
Now the people see the river but the old ship's gone away.

CHORUS: Water turns cold and gets ta freezin'.
Before you even know it the old girl's easin'
Away from her berth 'round by the point and out of our view.
Off in the mist, her engine's poundin'.
Back on the banks, that old horn's soundin'.
A little goodbye, a little I'll do what I must do.
A little goodbye, a little I'll do what I must do,

I know I will remember when I cannot hear that horn
That would roll up by the mountains as she took us through the storm.
I know they've got to take her, but I can't say I approve,
'Cause she's won so many battles that I hate to see her lose.

CHORUS 3X

From one of the lyrics sites, singing of Roger Whittaker.

Corrections?

Corrections applied. Also, line breaks rearranged to reflect the rhyme scheme and metrical structure. Then what do we see? The lyrics are identical to those already posted at the beginning of this thread, except those have better punctuation. So this whole exercise was a waste of time. --One of the clones.

Q:
Not many corrections:
But listening to the YouTube above, there's different repeats, but that's a matter of where & when for the performance.

Only obvious corrections (numbering the lines in your listing)
L5 'paint' not 'paing'
L14 "And out of view." should be "And out of our view."
L17 sounds more like "Back on the banks"

Cheers
Nigel

I was hoping someone would have the sheet music (standard notation, notes) for this, or link to the same. If it's published, I'd just as soon buy it, writing it out can be sloppy and time consuming.

Anyone?

Thanks!

Peace, Mooh.

Looked, but could not find sheet music for this.
There is a "The Roger Whittaker Songbook," Tembo Entertainments Ltd., 1970. Out of print, Abebooks has a copy for $35. Don't know if "River Lady" is included.

Try libraries.
