I am proposing that we have an edited thread which is a Master List of CDs which Mudcatters have available. I know we have separate threads when someone comes out with one. If you are anything like me, you've probably got notes written here and there, or threads bookmarked left and right so as not to forget to order each and every one of them as your budget allows.

(I did look for a list as I thought I remembered a thread about Mudcatters' CDs but the search didn't turn up anything.)

I have a sort of master list of CDs in general which I've filed in a recipe box which most of my notes are filed in, BUT I'd really love to see a Master List here. I think editing it would be done only to keep it managable, current, and to add new things under a certain person's name in one posting i.e. each person who has something to offer would have it listed in one posting. Any additions, changes, etc. could be added to that one posting by me or any other Joe Clone, so that all of it stays together OR, they could post it to the thread and one of us could move it to their original "Master" posting. I am also thinking bare bones info with links to relevant threads if so desired. So, one listing might look like this:

Acoustic Workshop 2004 Borealis Records (ordering info)
This One's the Dreamer etc.

Please let me know what you think and, if this thread is to become such, please remember that comments may be edited once we get it going.

Also, I'd like to apologise to those of you whose CDs I've said I wanted but have yet to order. I have NOT forgotten them; Life kind of took over my budget and time the last four months. It's improving so I hope to be able to get them, soon. Thanks for your offerings and understanding.

A thread as a Master list is unwieldy and not really a lot of use - it's sequential, in no particular order (other than perhaps chronological), free-format etc.

What we really need is a search facility such as we have for Mudcatter profiles, pictures, location etc. But that puts the onus on Joe et al to create and maintain it...

According to its originator, bbc, "The original intent of the Profiles was to give free information about/advertising for those of our number who make their living from the music, but might not have their own websites. It was a service that was also made available to any members who wanted to give more personal info than the photo, email, & locator sections offered." Profiles could and should still be used for those purposes. In this way, the onus of keeping the list current falls upon the artist and requires minimal effort on the part of Pene Azul or others. The difficulty lies in getting the artists to become aware of this resource and the utter simplicity involved in creating a profile.

JohninHUll, I owe you an apology. Thanks for pointing out the thread to me. What I was proposing would possibly make that one a bit easier to wade through. Perhaps we need an alphabetised index as in the Song Origins. I'm just looking for something easier to use than a bunch of scattered notes, threads, etc.

Kat, are you volunteering to put the Mudcatter CD's list in order? I do it occasionally, but it does need some work. I allot one message per CD, and try to crosslink at the top of the thread.

I second the notion, kat! But another thread - like the Mudcatter CDs - would IMO be less productive than a separate page, accessible from the Quick Links, that would let you look up recordings both by Mudcatter name and by the name of the band or musician on the CD.

Anyway=How about a mudcatter Cd Database , in alphabetical order?

obviously needs somebody to organise it , You? joe?

I would offer, but i use internet TV, and I can't do copy/paste etc on this thing.

There is already a mudcatters CD permathread created, I'm not sure who/ if anyone runs it, but it would probably be easier for someone [with copy paste facility] to organise that, ie put it in alphabetical order?

Not sure how this would work, but how about something like the green writing, [songs mentioned, CD's availbe ],
waht i mean is any post to the main forum by a full member would say next to his [or her!] name something like "CD Available, click for proper details", then the click would take you to their CD sales page on their own website, or just a link to the mudcat thread where theyb mention their CD.


Is this possible?
is it loads of work?
is it worth it?


perhaps anyone selling a CD via mudcat could give 10 percent [1 pound] to mudcat], most UK CD's go for about 10 to 12 pounds]


{I know that most pro musicians/singers with CD's give what they can afgord, but if there was a permanent link [like the "PM " thing they might get more sales, give more to mudcat, ie everybody gains.

I like the idea of including an info link to cd sales info.

There is a link listed above in the drop down menu, the Mudcat Market, that mentions other talents by certain members. It seems that an additional page could be added so that when selected from the drop down menu it would include member cds available for sale.

I think that a percentage going to the Cafe for such a service is a good idea, unless it would alter the status of the site in some negative way. Most every other outlet for such sales takes a percentage.
