Subject: Lyr Add: DANDELION (Nellie M. Garabrant) From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Apr 04 - 11:21 PM This contains the lines you quoted, but it's not about a grasshopper. Copied from http://www.geocities.com/loorpubs/pages_253_254.html DANDELION By Nellie M. Garabrant There's a dandy little fellow Who dresses all in yellow,-- In yellow, with an overcoat of green; With his hair all crisp and curly, In the spring-time bright and early, A-tripping o'er the meadow he is seen. Through all the bright June weather, Like a jolly little tramp, He wanders o'er the hillside, down the road; Around his yellow feather, The gypsy fire-flies camp; His companions are the woodlark and the toad. Spick and spandy, Little dandy, Golden dancer in the dell! Green and yellow, Happy fellow, All the little children love him well! But at last this little fellow Doffs his dandy coat of yellow, And very feebly totters o'er the green;-- For he very old is growing, And with hair all white and flowing A-nodding in the sunlight he is seen. The little winds of morning Come a-flying through the grass, And clap their hands around him in their glee; They shake him without warning,-- His wig falls off, alas; And a little bald-head dandy now is he. Oh, poor dandy, Once so spandy, Golden dancer on the lea! Older growing, White hair flowing, Poor little bald-head dandy now is he! |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE SLEEPY SONG (Josephine Daskam Bacon) From: Jim Dixon Date: 07 Apr 04 - 08:19 AM Copied from http://www.geocities.com/eugenewrayburn/sleepysong.html THE SLEEPY SONG Josephine Daskam Bacon As soon as the fire burns red and low And the house up-stairs is still, She sings me a queer little sleepy song, Of sheep that go over a hill. The good little sheep run quick and soft, Their colors are gray and white: They follow their leader nose to tail, For they must be home by night. And one slips over and one comes next, And one runs after behind, The gray one's nose at the white one's tail, The top of the hill they find. And when they get to the top of the hill They quietly slip away, But one runs over and one comes next -- Their colors are while and gray. And over they go, and over they go, And over the top of the hill, The good little sheep run quick and soft, And the house up-stairs is still. And one slips over and one comes next, The good little, gray little sheep! I watch how the fire burns red and low, And she says that I fall asleep. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dandelion -&- Sleepy Song From: GUEST,fsconnor Date: 15 Feb 10 - 07:25 AM Here are the lyrics my Dad used to sing: When the fire burns low on the great big stove And the house upstairs is still, Momma sings me a dear little sleepy song Of sheep that go over the hill. One steps over and one comes next And one comes after behind. The gray one's nose to the white one's tail, To the top of the hill they climb My son just revived it to sing to his daughter. fsc |
