Subject: Sunday Slow Jam, Colchester CT, USA From: MickyMan Date: 04 Apr 04 - 08:55 PM We meet at Starbucks in Colchester on Sundays at 5:30pm - 7:30pm (directions pasted below)and go over songs and tunes in that quiet setting for a while [ I have permission for this]. If we work up anything that is truly performable we go a few doors down to Billy O'Brian's Irish Pub and crash that place with a quick Irish set. This is being listed as a Slow-Jam, which means that we will present tunes very slowly and play them through multiple times. Come even if you just sort of play an instrument a little, little bit (or like to gawk, talk, or sing along). This is also a bit of an excuse for us like minded people to sit down and drink coffee together.(I have this listed on thesessions.org, a site for just this kind of thing.) The host has a bunch of tunes printed out in standard notation, but we'll be doing them slowly so come even if you can't read. Bring a music stand if you have one. You may wish to go and have an earlier dinner at Billy O'Brian's. It is a nice place with a good Irish atmosphere and good food. DIRECTIONS: Come from wherever on Rte 2 East or West - take Exit 18 in either direction - Right at the end of the exit (in either direction) and go toward Colchester Center on Rte 16East - Pass Blockbuster on the right and quickly drive up to the town green (between the big white churchon the right and the town library on the left) - with the green in front of you take a LEFT AT THE LIGHT and pass Billy O'Brian's Irish Pub on your left - turn left at the next light in to the plaza after Billy O'Brian's - Starbucks is in this plaza, facing the smaller memorial green across the street |
Subject: RE: Next session on April 18th From: MickyMan Date: 04 Apr 04 - 09:07 PM We're taking off next week (Easter Sunday) but will return for more music on Sunday, April 18th. We had a wonderful get-together tonight with five people. The format has kind of settled in to the following... Slowwwww run through of the two tunes that we are currently concentrating on, Britches Full Of Stitches and Jayme Allen. We then have a little kind of open-mic thing where people share something if they wish, including songs or whatever. (One of the staff from Starbucks surprised us with a good one tonight!) We end with another run through of the tunes and leave at 7:30 so the staff can clean up for their 8:00 closing. We still haven't brought it over to Billy O'Brian's yet but if we get some hot shots coming some time that is a real option. Please come, even if the tunes are not familiar. We will be adding more and we truly do them slow enough for newcomers to get the jist of it even if they don't read. We're having a good time! |
