I am seriously considering going to the celebration of Rick Fielding's life and music on Saturday, June 5th at the Tranzac Club in Toronto.

Marge's oldest son used to live in Buffalo, so I know it is a doable drive. And I think I can convince Marge that I'm not crazy (or maybe that won't matter to her).

I could use some suggestions on lodgings. Clean and simple is fine with me. Preferably a hotel near the Transzac Club.

If there are enough Mudcatters interested, perhaps we could get a group rate somewhere.

dont know where the club is but the bond place hote downtown near eaton centre was always affordadable and clean used to be around (0 us.
wish i were going but we'll be in the uk that week.

I will be there. I usually stay at the Holiday Inn Express located in Scarborough which is about a 15 minute drive downtown. Nice clean place at a reasonable rate. It is 10 minute drive to Rick's.

I'm trying to figure out a plan. What happened with the other plan for a get-together in Orillia May 16 or 23??? I think it's only reasonable for me to expect to attend one of these events...

Willie, I may or may not be at the May event, depending on time committments. If I come it will be a last minute decision. I surely would like to, but Rick's situation has altered plans a bit.

If you want to stay at a hotel really close to the Tranzac, there's a Quality Inn on Bloor Street about five or ten minutes walk from the club. I don't know what the rates are, but it's wheelchair accessible, close to the subway and there's lots of restaurants and other services close by.

To my considerable disappointment, especially since being within an hour's drive of Toronto, I won't be able to attend. My trio, "Ezeduzit", is playing a fundraiser in Guelph that evening. But "High on a Mountain" is part of our repertoire now, and you can be sure we'll be isnging it for Rick that evening.

I'm still planning on coming. I don't think I can talk Marge into it, though (although I haven't given up). She's never excited about long car trips.

Peter T. Just how many people can the Tranzac legally contain? My first concern was it might be too small.

I plan to keep refreshing this thread since many won't be able to decide until closer to the date.

Don't they have different rooms? Maybe there's a civic center or stadium nearby. or a park, if it's nice out.

Does the Tranzac still have a fooseball table? I remember how Rick zoomed in on it the first time I visited. I never figured him for a fooseball nut. (And do Canadians call it something else?)

They can fit a lot more than 60 in there when they do rows instead of tables, Peter. I can't imagine them trying to manage it with the tables up.

There are a couple of other small rooms in the building at the Tranzac. No park nearby that I can think of - heck, not much by way of parking either. Lots of funky restaurants and stores though.

I wonder how many will show up? I keep thinking that it should be moved down to Bloor St. United, where there's a big meeting hall and the sanctuary has been the stage and seating area for many large folk events.

But I'm not the one organizing it...

there web sites mentions having staged musicals, etc - I can't imagine them doing that will seating for only 60 - but maybe they have? oh well - I'll just plan on getting there early- heh-heh-heh!

I think the Tranzac seats about 150 or so. Probably more if someone is posted at the door on lookout for the fire marshal. It's gonna be jammed, folks, but magical I'm sure. I'm really looking forward to seeing the 'Catters I know and meeting the ones I don't know!

I'm not sure now, probably and regretfully won't be there.

Due to an unprecedented lucky break for my better half...she came home on Monday and said, very uncharacteristically, "I had a great day at work!" Seems the health food store she's at has been doing very well at selling Kyolic Garlic--a Japanese herbal process--and Kyolic rewarded them with a free junket to Japan for one staff member--and the store owners picked Molly to go (seniority and other deserving qualities). She is like over the moon with this development, and I am very happy to see her this happy--and I will be a single parent for the week in question here.
