Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: GUEST,pdc Date: 10 Apr 04 - 08:43 PM I take flaxseed oil capsules to help with hot flashes, and find them very effective. Are you taking them for general health purposes? |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: GUEST,Mary V. meverc@aol.com Date: 10 Apr 04 - 08:49 PM Yes , as I have read that flaxseed has wonderful health benefits. I take the liquid itself. |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: GUEST,guest from NW Date: 10 Apr 04 - 08:55 PM the seed itself has many health benefits. if you sprikle a spoonful on your cereal or whatever, they have an excellent laxative effect. if you grind them and take the powder on your food it lowers cholesterol. |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: Don Firth Date: 10 Apr 04 - 09:11 PM If you're trying to keep your cholesterol down, Omega 3 oil is better. Just got the results in the mail of the blood test from my last physical. Cholesterol is 179, good ratio of HDL to LDL. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 11 Apr 04 - 07:35 AM If you take the seeds, be sure to grind them in a coffee griner (I have one just for this purpose) or mortar and pestle- unground, they just pass on through! I take a few tablespoons in my oatmeal for general health benefits. And they add a nice crunch! Allison |

Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: emilyrain Date: 11 Apr 04 - 10:20 PM i did for a while (for skin health and balanced brain chemistry), but didn't get dramatic enough results to help me remember to take it every day. :) i've switched to fish oil, and that seems to work much better. i might have had an off-brand flax oil... |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: LilyFestre Date: 11 Apr 04 - 10:40 PM Hmmmm...interesting thread! I'll be teaching a lesson to 4th graders this week about flax.....only it's more about planting, cultivating and harvesting flax for use in making linen (including all the steps). The title of my lesson? FLAX: From Plants to Pants! :) Michelle PS. Did you know that it takes 3 to 4 acres of flax to make one shirt or pair of pants? |

Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: GUEST,a picky eater Date: 12 Apr 04 - 02:12 AM For years I have put flax oil on steamed vegetables, rice or anything that I would put a gravy, butter or oil on. -tastes really good on toast too. Just don't ever heat the flax oil up, -the heat kills it. Sometimes I buy flax oil mixed with borage oil or a flax/borage/pumpkin oil blend. -all really healthy oils to put into one's body. of course, you might not feel anything immediately, but for the long term, these oils are very healing, plus they taste great. And THAT is the biggest reason not to eat a lot of fast food, specially the FRIED fast food, because of the cheap oils that are used, and when those cheap oils are brought up to temperature for frying, they become carcinogens. this is reminding me that I need to pick up some more Flax Oil! Lately, I've been reminded that Extra Virgin Coconut oil is also very healthy to have in one's diet and it's one of the best oils to cook with because it can withstand heat without oxidation. (also good for people with digestive disorders) |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: Kim C Date: 12 Apr 04 - 12:07 PM Flaxseed oil does contain Omega-3 fatty acids. It's a good option for people who don't care to eat fish or take fish oil. I take the capsules but sometimes eat the seeds, too. I either sprinkle them in cereal or oatmeal, or put them atop a salad. Coconut oil is also a good treatment for the hair! |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: Peace Date: 12 Apr 04 - 05:32 PM Just the flax, ma'am, just the flax. www.bodybuildingforyou.com/health-supplements/ flax-seed-oil.htm Something to read, anyway. Couldn't get the blue thing to work. |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: MAG Date: 13 Apr 04 - 03:26 PM The fish oil is just a lot stronger than flaxseed oil so you don't need to take as many capsules for the same effect. I don't like the aftertaste. The bottled oil is a lot cheaper than the capsules but I have trouble remembering to take it. |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: GUEST Date: 14 Apr 04 - 02:51 PM Lilyfestre - flax yields average well over 100 lbs of finished fiber per acre - sometime up to 300 pounds. this is the "longline" fiber traditionaly used to make fine linen thread - it doesn't include the tow fibers used to make coarser twines etc. How big are those shirts and pants? a dozen or so square yards/meters of flax should yield sufficient thread for a single shirt or pair of pants. |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: dianavan Date: 14 Apr 04 - 09:13 PM If you want to cut down on eggs (cholesterol) pour a couple of tablespoons of boiling water over flax seeds or flax meal. Let it set for 5 min or so. Add the mix to whatever you're baking (muffins, cakes, etc). It works just fine. Good for you too! |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: Mudlark Date: 15 Apr 04 - 01:04 AM I take flax oil in capsules. Not matter how you take it the important thing to remember is once the seeds are breached the product, whether it be ground flax seeds, capsules of oil, or the oil itself, goes rancid very rapidly. Make sure oil has been properly stored and refrigerated in store (and check sell by date!) and keep it in fridge, fridge capsules after opening bottle, ditto any left over ground meal. |
Subject: RE: BS: flax seed oil ...does anyone take it ? From: dianavan Date: 15 Apr 04 - 03:27 AM Good point, Mudlark. I just had to compost a bag of flax meal. Oh well, it should be good for the garden. |
