Subject: RE: Chester Folk Festival: 28th -31st May 04 From: JudeL Date: 23 May 04 - 03:32 AM We will be up at JH's place that weekend so we may pop over or a day or an evening. JH mentioned a pub called "The Royal Oak" which he said is where singing used to be perpetrated. There used to also be singing in another pub called "The Morris Dancer" but he said it may not be allowed anymore as it has changed hands and names (though he can't remember what it is now called} and he doesn't know what the new landlord/landlady are like. |
Subject: RE: Chester Folk Festival: 28th -31st May 04 From: Apache Date: 23 May 04 - 01:28 PM The Morris Dancer is now called "The Olive Tree" but we still call it the Dancer, we're stubborn like that, lol. They serve wonderful food and they are usually ok with the festival, only last year (if my memory serves me correctly) you weren't allowed muddy shoes or your own drink in the Function Room where some of the acts take place. Alls ok though and the festival doesn't suffer because of it. Last year The Bradshaw Mummers even had a surprise enterance from a wedding party and the Chester City Morris Men held the garlands aloft to the entrance of the pub (where the reception was being held) |
Subject: RE: Chester Folk Festival: 28th -31st May 04 From: Tig Date: 23 May 04 - 04:52 PM We're not doing Chester this year - other commitments. Hope you have a good one. Please give my love to Bradshaw Mummers ;-0 |
Subject: RE: Chester Folk Festival: 28th -31st May 04 From: Mr Happy Date: 25 May 04 - 07:03 AM Looks like there's going to be quite a few people camping there from Wednesday, so I may change original plan to camp from Thursday to Wed instead. If there's enough folks around, there'll likely be a session at the Royal Oak both nights [Wed+Thur]but I'm still hoping to run the Mr Happy's Come-All-Ye at The Union Vaults Wednesday night as usual. I'm up at Kelsall from Wednesday morning, helping set up the site with Emma B, Apache, et al. See y'all soon! |

I'm compering the singaroung at the Royal Oak on Saturday afternoon and in the concert Monday afternoon and the folk club Monday evening. Come and make yourself known (or just have a listen!). (I'm not performing in St.Albans on Friday, nor in the British Legion on Sunday, nor at any casual drop in session on Tuesday, though I might mention this on a breezy thread). Mick (Pearce) |

Subject: RE: Chester Folk Festival: 28th -31st May 04 From: MoorleyMan Date: 02 Jun 04 - 04:34 PM Superb weekend! Good location, great guests, great weather, and a goodly welcome from the organising team. Will definitely be back next year. High points? Three Sheets To The Wind, Spiers & Boden, Last Night's Fun, Tom Lewis, Roy Clinging, the Time Bandits, and some particularly well-run (and decently-mannered) afternoon singarounds and sessions. Yes, a weekend to remember - congrats to all concerned. |
