Jeff Warner UK Tour

Jeff Warner plays the music and songs of America's rural past. He's a smart exponent of Appalachian style Old Time on banjo and guitar ballads and songs of Old and New England, Irish American tunes on banjo and concertina and even some Appalachian clogging. He does them all and more. Jeff comes from one of America's foremost folksong families. His parents, Frank and Anne Warner recorded a singer called Frank Proffitt of North Carolina who sang them a song called 'Tom Dooley' which was just a bit of a hit for Lonnie Donegan!

Jeff is a not to be missed performer. This guy is good!

By the way, Tom Dooley was also a hit for the Kingston Trio.

From: GUEST,Henryp

Jeff Warner got a great reception on the first date of his UK tour at the Clarence in Blackpool last night. Great traditional songs and music drawn from diverse communities across the American continent. Lots from the Warner Songbook, each one a perfect sketch from the life of a soldier, a roustabout, a lumberjack or a sweetheart. Dates across the country over the next two weeks - do catch him if you can.

Ref the gig list, please note that the Nags Head & Plough, Stapleford, is in Nottinghamshire, not Derbyshire as stated. Though it is easily reached by bus from either town. The club is great, and so is Jeff. Go see him! Burl

Jeff's a lot of fun to listen to because he HAS a lot of fun. He knows loads of songs and knows loads about songs, has a strong, warm voice, and is good at every instrument he plays. I'm not sure what he's bringing, but I know he plays concertinas, banjo, guitar, and occasionally, limberjacks, spoons, and various body parts (ask him to 'hambone').

Go see him, enjoy him, invite him to a session or two, then, please, give him back!

Yeah -- what Jeri said. All this means our weekly Press Room session as well as the monthly sea music session will be without him until he returns.

If you mean a very small person of the wooden persuasion, then yes. I've rarely seen such effective team-work between musician and dancer! Just got back from seeing him at Calver Village Hall. A thoroughly enjoyable evening; and it was a pleasure to meet Jeff.

saw him at Bacca Pipes on Friday, my first visit to this club and nearly got lost!I was/am the little one!

Chance meeting in Keighley town centre, with the organiser.Lots of West Yorkshire notable there, I believe including Tim Moon, Mal Jardine and I think John Pashley who i hadn't seen for probably 30 years.

I don't think I was recognised, and just escaped with my life! apart from a couple from Preston who had travelled in to see him for second time

What an outstanding evening this was and Jeff's simple and communicative style had everyone joining in on choruses
Might get to Rishworth, where I am known!!

Jeff was guesting in my singaround at Chippenham festival yesterday, and gave the (heckling) Hanging Johnny (shanty group from Plymouth) a wonderful put-down ("I've worked with children before...").

It was a great singing session, and Jeff said we joined in the choruses better than a US audience would. Was he just flattering us, though?

Kitty, some US audiences sing just as much as UK ones. In many places, however, they have to be told it's OK to sing on choruses, and even then, join in quietly.

His homies thank ya'll for the information on sightings.

So . . . how much trouble is Jeff finding to get into?

Inquiring minds want to know . . .

Besides, we need good blackmail info for when he gets back to The Press Room. ;-)
