I will be traveling to western North Carolina next month and, coincidentally, I am in the market for a new autoharp.

Does anyone know of any good instrument makers in the Asheville area?

Surely this is music, not BS?

Definitely not BS, but it didn't seem to fit any of the "music" categories, either . . . . I'm not looking for lyrics, or chord progressions, or song titles, or the like.

. . . and I would hope that the forum is not so segregated as to preclude providing some basic information, even if the request might not fit exactly into on or the other of the major slots.

Okay. There's this guitar shop in downtown Boone, N.C. Wish I could remember the guys name but its like a block from the old time hardware store and is downstairs next to a barber shop... This guy sells instruments that have been made by a local luthier and they play and look purdy danged good... You go there and tell him that the skinny hillbilly that came into his shop and played blues on one of them custom built guitars one afternoon about a year ago sent ya and I'll guarentee he'll set you up with this luthier...

Bobert

Beadie, are you coming from the north or south?

There's an instrument shop on US441 near the Georgia border that has a good selection of instruments, last time I was there.

It's 30 miles or so from here, 30-40 miles from Ashville. Can I check on anything for you over the weekend?

Thanx for the tips.

Ironmule, I'm coming from Wisconsin (I guess that counts as "north"). We're setting the motorhome down in Asheville, so the 441 lead will be well within our daytrippin' range for the tow car.

Just knowing where to look is half the battle.

If you don't think your message fits one of the suggested categories/prefixes, you don't actually have to use one. But, if it's music, it's not BS -- that's the only essential segregation, for Mudcat purposes.

(Hopefully one of the site techies (Joe or similar) will fix this message for us.)
