Heard some buzz in London over the weekend that Nic Jones has recorded a (brand) new CD. Does anyone know if this is the case? Any details?

Yes there is a new Nic Jones album. It is a compilation of live sets that were recorded over his career. You can only get it from Nic and his wife. I've got their address somewhere and will post it as soon as I find it. Dan

The cost of the CD is 12.99 UK POUNDS STERLING including postage WITHIN THE UK I am unsure of the Dollar rate or postage to USA etc. I will try to find out. Julia understands that minmum cost for IMO is $30 ??? if so she will accept multiple orders with one IMO and she will mail out seperately or if you are really desperate she will accept dollar bills if you ensure they are well hidden in the letter. Be generous with the exchange rate as it costs to convert to sterling - remember all the proceeds are going to Nic Jones.

Just found the most recent thread on this, which I couldn't find before... Nic Jones CD (McGrath of Harlow's thread), which says that the CD is also available from Dick Greenhaus at CAMSCO, for those in the US.

I thought I would refresh this thread. Due to the poor distribution, it is as if this CD (and Unearthed)had never been released. I wish they had sold the rights to Topic who have done Nic proud with Penguin Eggs.

Thanks for reviving this ancient thread.
For your information, The reason that the 2 retrospective releases of Nics archive have not been released on labels such as Topic (Nice Chaps all) is that the family (quite rightly IMHO!) Don't actually feel able to get into bed with any record company. (Can hardly blame them!)
So, to satisfy Nics many fans, "In Seach Of" and "Unearthed" eventually saw the light of day. (On Mollie Music..Julia Jones own label)

To fully appreciate the whole story,there are countless threads on Mudcat, just search for Dave Bulmer, Celtic Music....etc.

For the latest waxing from Nic, why not explore The Halliards latest release "Broadside Ballards"

Just Google Mollie Music and you will discover all you need to know.

In the meantime, Nics first four albums are unavailable. If you see any of them for sale, they are bootlegs, and Nic would receive not one penny from their sale. So, best not go there!

It's not a happy state of affairs, and hasn't been so for many years.

Thanks Ralphie for that. Yes, I do know the whole sorry saga and I do understand why the Joneses are highly suspicious of record companies. However, it is a shame that "In Search of Nic Jones" and "Unearthed" are not more readily available as they are two wonderful CDs - great artwork, good notes, and great music - that should be listened to anyone who likes folk music. I'm sure that apart from diehard Nic Jones fans, others who have heard Penguin Eggs and who loved it would like to listen to his other work, but do not know of its existance, which is a shame. Topic, as far as I am aware, are highly reputed and have kept Nic's Penguin Eggs in the shops where people can find it. Lets just hope Dave Bulmer doesnt buy out Topic.

Firstly the sage in my garden is doing very nicely, and the Rosemary has really come on this year!
Julia and Tony (Topic record boss) actually get on very well, and I know that this very subject has been talked about. Maybe, one day, some sort of deal to get the two retrospecive CDs out to a greater public will surface. In the meantime, tell everyone you know about Mollie Music. With more and more people using the Net, its becoming more usual to shop this way. Mind you, as an old Trad person, it's quite nice to write a letter and post a cheque! (apparently, you get a hand-written reply with the records too, if your letter is grovelling enough!!)
