Pavlina and I were at Folklife today and we went to the Emerald City Jug Band concert on the Bagley Wright Lawn Stage or whatever, and they did a wonderful song about organic diets. Can't find it either here or in Google. Anybody know the words? In addition to "Don't panic" rhymed with "Eat organic", it rhymed "pagan" and "vegan", and contained the word "macrobiotic" (rhymed with what I don't recall). It was very funny. Advance thanks for lyrics.

Haruo

I see they have a website http://emeraldcityjugband.com/ and under "Sounds" they have an mp3 of "Eat Organic" http://emeraldcityjugband.com/sounds/organic.mp3 as well as two others (She's Number One and Don't Come to Seattle) from their first CD, "The Best of the ECJB. Honest!", which is only twelve bucks, and which I am going to order this evening.

BTW the photo on their webpage is very realistic.

That's Jim Nason's song. Jim is Seattle's "Emergency Folk Singer" - if in an emergency you need a folk singer, Jim is the one to call. You can get his email contact off the Jugband's web site. And Jim's got some other great songs as well.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

Bill, that's not the song. You can hear Jim's song on the mp3 clip on the Jug Band's web site link that Haruo posted.

There is no tune for the 'organic' song in the DT.

ECJB sound very good. Now I just have to figure out how to fake a jugband sound on the piano accordion....

Subject: Lyr Add: EAT ORGANIC (from Emerald City Jug Band)

I attempted to transcribe what I heard at http://emeraldcityjugband.com/music.htm.

Somebody should teach that singer something about using his natural voice! The song was unnecessarily difficult to understand because of the weird vocal contortions he was making in an effort to sound funny, I suppose. He needn't have bothered; the song is funny enough by itself.

Some of this is conjecture; I welcome corrections.

EAT ORGANIC
As sung by The Emerald City Jug Band

Well, my doctor said ... but he also said, "You're dead
If you don't stop slammin' that junk food and stickin' drugs up in your head."
And if it's true that what you eat you are, then I'm a dog. (?)
My only chance is yogurt and the daisies in my yard.
Corn, beans and rice, and salad's all I need to eat.
My license to drink milk's revoked; I got an allergy to wheat.

CHORUS: But I don't panic; I just eat organic,
And I don't bounce back and forth between depressed and manic.
I take advice that's free and factual.
I eat only what I think is natural,
And I don't panic; I just eat organic. Yeah!

Well, that ... is way too Ying and oatmeal's far too Yong,
But the way I slam down all that steak and mushroom's just plain wrong.
Half the stuff I eat's immoral and the rest'll make me fat,
And all of it's laced with poisons, and you know I don't like that.
If I never eat another ... thing at all, I'll die by noon,
And considering all my pain and suffering, death couldn't come too soon. CHORUS

Well, I never drink the water because it doesn't taste so good
Unless it's boiled and charcoal-filtered, you know, the way it should.
And forget about ground-up bovine flesh; it's a playground for disease,
Although your politician ... postures (?) and decrees.
One more thing: take ... nail down my coffin lid.
Don't eat it unless you grew it or you know the boy who did.

LAST CHORUS: Just don't panic; y'all eat organic,
And don't bounce back and forth between depressed and manic.
Y'all take advice that's free and factual.
Eat only what you think is natural,
And then don't panic; just eat organic.
Don't be idiotic; try macrobiotic.
Or even if you're a pagan, y'all can be a vegan.
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
