when importing audio to a recording session the speed is reduced, I assume this is due to sample rate differences. can anyone suggest possible fix or point me in the right direction please

Could you state your question more clearly, please?

"when importing audio to a recording session the speed is reduced" doesn't make a great deal of sense by itself.

the playback speed of the audio tracks imported differs from the origional when imported to re mix on my system at home remote from the studio- recorded on mac with protools and importing to cubase 5 on windows - when played in media player direct speed is as recorded so the sample rate must be changing as part of the import process - or it could be the bit rate ?

The application you are importing to must be able to manage the same sample rate and quality as the original recording. It has nothing to do with the platform, but rather with the abilities and settings of the target application. Even if the target application were not set up to be the same, it shouldn't slow down the playback.

It may be that your home machine doesn't have enough genuine throughput to process the data fast enough to sound right. In that case, more RAM or a more modern CPU will handle it.

It could either be something in the importing process, or it could also be something with your Cubase configuration.

I don't know ProTools or Cubase, but if offer up some details about the exact format of your source files, your import process, and what Cubase says about the imported file as far as file properties I might be able to see something worthwhile.
