Had a goodly time at Beverley nice sesh on Friday night at Sun followed by Hodgson's with Les/Mags. The seh's in'tSun on Sat and Sunday were mega. The session in the Oddies was brill too. When you think that the Oddies only came on board during the People's Voice it's grown in quality over the years and established itself as 'the' singaround on saturday at Beverley, thyere's a little bit of noise to contend with from bar and snug (especially when the Athenry crowd are around) but it's a belter. Met some new catters too el ted, john barden etc.

Didn't get around much this year but it sounds like you had fun. I spent all saturday playing in Nellies and had a splendid day, but that was the extent of my participation this year, as I had a gig in York on Friday, and was too buggered to go anywhere on Sunday!!

Did the duel take place, Jim?

Am I correct to assume the cowardly Kumbersome did not materialise, Your second, Moi, and your third Paulus the Wood Gnome enjoyed his birthday festivities in the fair seaport of Whitby on Saturday evening in that fine hostelry known to one and all as Butlers Beer Boutique and Emporium

Good, but very cold!

Well done to whoever (mcfat?) organised sess on sat at oddies, it sounded great from the bar!

I cannot tell a lie it was moi at the Oddies. The duel didn't take place but that pesky southern puff Klumpertan kept wooing R&WR although he did step in and save her honour when she was being 'Murphed'

I think I missed a lot -Thursday and Friday I was with my babies @EthnoEngland at the memorial hall -too knackered saturday but a nice old timey session with oombanjo in Nellies on Sunday. Still got asked for the Fields of Athenry and still one singer/guitarist who thought he ought to play every other song, but lovely apart from that!!!

The singaround in the Sun was indeed mega - I was there for four hours on Sunday and sang one song! Seemed to be much more unaccompanied trad stuff this year too - more like it used to be under Johnnie and Ray.

Didn't get into Oddies but heard good reports from all who did.

Iced Gems was nice on Saturday in the Monk's but was a bit too crowded on Sunday - still, that's popularity for you.

Cara were good in the Sun on Sunday night too.

more of the same next year James?

I really enjoyed myself .... Excellent song sessions (I think we may have influenced some of the locals, in fact the most noise came from a group of folkies who should have known better)

The town is still spectacular and the second hand bookshops are just wonderful.

As I was leaving Beverley on Sunday Afternoon I was delayed by the Wagonmaster's procession (Victorian Transport)..... very interesting.

Well done everyone ..... I certainly will be returning

Let us hope that we can keep a constant set of licensees for the next year. I've been in Beverley for just under six years and the Sun has changed hands five times in that period, the Tiger three, Nellies twice and I could go on.

It is amazing how good the all-year-round pub folk scene (on which the festival fringe is based) is in Beverley considering.

So where was scaredy-cat Raggytash? Not supporting his liege lord, that's for sure.

Well I was there, doing my sly southern-woofter's best.

I was there, I tempted her, I woo-ed her, yea even under the very beard (well ,,,, sort of beard/hairy face), of my Athenry-hating rival.
I did, quite modestly, even expedite her escape from the clutches of yet one more suitor desperate to gain her favour.

Even more bravely I attended her court each am and consumed, without flinching, the strength sapping comestibles that MCFat slipped into the breakfast that R&WRabbit lovingly prepared for me.

Seeing that I was totally unaffected by his druggy fungal preparations, he was too scared to even mention the D-word.

Victory is ours R&WRabbit my lovely

Kampervan I seem to think the amount of alochol consumed with breakfast was such that nothing could have got to you. It was lovely to have so many guests chez moi for breakfast Thank you Kampervan and Lord Kenneth of Chesterfield for acquiring snorkers Thank you my Lord MCFAT for your wonderful performance with a dish cloth - when you said you could only perform to an audience I didnt realise that was what you meant!! Thank you to all in Oddies for helping MCFAT and I celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary - no he didnt buy me anything and to those of you who witnessed the divorce on Sunday!

Kampervan thank you for all those ''supportive'' moments and for rescuing this damsel from the Lord Murph. I think that was MCFATS doing - he would keep calling him DAVID!

As for the festival and the singing twer ok frum where I woz sittin too

Moi ! Scaredy Cat, My Leige said that as you so feeble an opponent my services would not be required and that he could deal with you with one hand shoved up a glove puppet.
Cometh the hour cometh the man, see you in Whitby perchance or will it be too cold for a southern Jessie Up North in August

Yes it was good, wasn't it? Thanks to everyone who turned up for the various singy sessions. We had moved the 'Iced Gems' sessions at late notice from their previous home in Hodgson's 'cos Hodgson's never seemed to know if we were coming, and last time we had to use the big room, which wasn't really suitable. So thanks to Lorraine for the use of the back room at Monk's Walk. We were a bit late on the Sunday, as stayed for the end of the Sun Singaround, but there were so many in Monk's Walk we had to fight to get in anyway! And it's nice when a tea-time session goes on well past 9 o'clock!

Thanks
Les and Maggie

And thanks to Les and Maggie for running the iced gems again (under difficult circumstances). I hope to be able to get more involved with organising the fringe again for next year so I'm looking to get things like the venue for iced gems sorted well ahead of time.

Any suggestions for fringe improvements will be taken on board - so post them here.

Suggestions to improve fringe -
   a) More flamenco.
   b) free beer for anyone who plays flamenco.
   c) a free sedan chair to cart flamenco players around the festival pubs, my little leggies are knackered.

I had a great couple of days playing Old Time in Nellies, only slightly marred by people who'd obviously been thrown out of Irish sessions for incompetence coming in and demanding The Wild Rover, thrashing out stuff we'd all got fed up of years ago and suchlike. It was the only Old Time session of the entire fringe and festival - was it too much to ask that we be allowed to keep it that way?

Gotta to say that for something that's only three (doggy?)years old the fringe has evolved into something that can fill the whole weekend with fantastic sessions.
Thanks to everyone who organises and runs them.

Thanks to Mick, mcFat, Les and Maggie for the singarounds. Heard some of Two Short Planks and Cara, enjoyed a few concerts and had a very good weekend with the family. Our newest member was enjoying his second festival - hope he'll carry on the music.

Who was that couple who sang "the banks of primroses" in the Sun on Sat? I've seen him before a few times on his own, but they were great together. She was in a dancers costume and he said somehing about not singing together very often I think it' a shame, and think they should sing more often.
