Sorry, I cannot make it this year,Skipper Jack, but I would encourage anyone else to go. I went with Snuffy a couple of years back and there is some brilliant singing!
"I thought I heard the old man say ...!"

Last time I went, I bought a T shirt about the oldest sailing ship afloat.

What happened? It sank and my T shirt was out of date...

Sounds a good lineup though.

I neglected to mention the Swansea Yacht Club, which is the Saturday night venue for the concert.

Sainsburys is kindly supporting an RNLI fundraiser as well.

Sea Cadets often figure in maritime festivals around country.

But the Swansea Sea Cadets are doing a special re-enactment of The Battle of Trafalgar. I was quite impressed by the show, that I asked them to do it at The Swansea Maritime Festival. The costumes are really excellent and it is quite a dramatic presentation with scenic backdrops, props and cannons.

If you are coming to the festival, make a point of going to see the show.

The Swansea Maritime Festival is just over a week away.

It survived a threat of cancellation last year. However the decision was overturned and the festival went ahead in glorious weather.
This year there are three new venues including Sainsburys who have kindly consented to let us use their cafe for the purpose of fund-raising for the RNLI.
The Swansea Museum is the venue for an afternoon concert on both days (Saturday & Sunday 17th - 18th July)
It all gets underway on Friday evening at another new venue, The Schooner Bar in the Maritime Quarter. It takes the form of a singaround with guest spots, in a nice relaxed atmosphere.
The Queens Hotel has sessions on Saturday & Sunday from 12.00pm to 4.00pm.
And the Yacht Club hosts the Saturday evening concert from 7.0pm.
The festival main stage will feature continuous music from 11.00am - 5.00pm with festival guests which includes the children's shanty group, The Nipper Jacks.
The performers: Stormalong John, Johnny Collins, Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman, Graeme Knights, Baggyrinkle, Shanty Jack, Hughie Jones, Gaye & Trish, Harry Brown's Shantymen and Roy Clinging
Everywhere is within easy reach and it's all free!!
We'd be delighted to meet you Mudcatters so please come along and introduce yourselves.

Schooner Bar on Friday evening? Won't seem the same not going to the Queens.

BTW - how do I find the Schooner Bar?

Snuffy,

The Schooner Bar is on the road going down to the festival site.
They want to get involved with the festival.
The Queens last year, was packed and it was almost impossible to sing over the noise.

The Schooner Bar has real ale brewed by a local brewery (which I can certainly recommend).
There's also a late licence there till 2.0am!!

What more can one ask?

Cheers.

Some day I hope to travel far,
I'll point my bows to an eastern star,
On the coast of England I hope to be,
At the maritime festival at Swansea.

Hello to Mike and Tony from Chanteyranger in San Francisco. Don't see Mainbrace on the program, but I'm pretty sure they'll be around (but I think Mike is in Baggyrinkle as well, no?)

Mike used to be in a group called "Motley Crew".

Now of course, he and Tony make up the excellent duo Mainbrace.
