Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lilacs Are For Angels From: Jim Dixon Date: 07 Jul 04 - 10:13 AM I didn't find any lyrics, but I learned that LILACS ARE FOR ANGELS is on Leanne Chaulk's album "Only One Daddy Like You." It's also on Ellis and Wince Coles' cassettes "Eli's on the Weed" and "Greatest Hits - Volume 1." These are available at Tide's Point, shopDownhomer.com, and Fred's Records, which specialize in Newfoundland music. |
Subject: Lyr Add: LILACS ARE FOR ANGELS (from Leanne Chaulk From: GUEST,Velvet Dwyer Date: 02 Oct 10 - 09:28 PM LILACS ARE FOR ANGELS As sung by Leanne Chaulk As the peaceful crimson sunset sank low into the sea On that country road that evening, it was just the birds and me Then as if she came from no-where, a little girl was kneeling down Her arms were full of lilacs that kept falling to the ground As their fragrance filled the evening, I walked up and said hello I think you have more lilacs then your little arms can hold I'm not supposed to talk to strangers, that's what my mommy said But someone's gotta to help me take these flowers to my dad When I asked there came no answer, where would your daddy be? She only talked of lilacs she had picked from granny's tree And then she told me how all by herself she had wrote her dad a song And could I help her sing it; as we walked along Pretty lilacs, they are for angels Oh their fragrance they freely give Purple blossoms, will bloom in heaven, In the valleys on the hill where daddy lives Through the trees I saw the answer, and the tears began to flow There standing in the shadows I saw headstones row on row She sang right up to the graveside spreading flowers all around Whispering Daddy here's your lilacs as she placed the flowers down With her little hands she planted all the lilacs in the plane I cried a million tears mam since daddy went away But I must be strong for mommy; I tell her there's no need to cry Cause daddy he's an angel, in the blue he's flying high The dark is quickly coming and mommy's all alone Before I go I thank you for the kindness you have shown But that song I wrote for daddy once more I'd love to sing And together in the shadows our voices clearly rang Pretty lilacs, they are for angels Oh their fragrance they freely give Purple blossoms, will bloom in heaven In the valleys on the hill where daddy lives In the valley on the hill where daddy lives |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lilacs Are for Angels (Leanne Chaulk) From: Ann N Date: 29 Mar 11 - 03:08 PM It's interesting reading the verses as, when I was a child neither my Mum or my Gran would allow Lilac blooms in the house because they were the flowers of death. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lilacs Are for Angels (from Leanne Chaulk From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Jan 13 - 09:01 AM BMI.com says LILACS ARE FOR ANGELS was written by Ellis Coles (who was cowriter of AUNT MARTHA'S SHEEP and has written many other songs). YouTube has a recording of Ellis & Wince Coles singing LILACS ARE FOR ANGELS. I couldn't find a date, but since AUNT MARTHA'S SHEEP dates from 1972, LILACS ARE FOR ANGELS can't be very old. |
