Happy Holiday to each and every one!

A blow was struck on this day in 1690 against absolutism!

In Chicago -- I thought you were referring to the 25th Anniversary of Disco Demolition Derby where music really did some slewing!

Hi Conrad... long time, no whatever....

Looks as if there'll be a lot more virtual parades from now on.
Gladdens the heart, doesn't it?

Now tell me that that aint a blow against absolutism.

It was Gold...., and it was beautiful
The consistence...., it was fine.
It was smoked at Gerry Loughran's, Dennis Quinlan's and Mick Coyne's.
My father bought it as a youth in the bygone days of yore.
And it's on the Twelfth I love to smoke the hash my father scored.

I believe that is what they call the ever-changing folk tradition.

My condolences, Con. The original had a good innings.

B.

So the auld flute was banned, and its fate was pathetic!
It was tied up and burned at the stake as heretic!
But as the flames rose, sir, there came a strange noise--
That flute was still whistling "The Protestant Boys"!

And a happy July 12th to anyone who needs one!

Hi Conrad. Aren't you a month out? I thought the "glorioius 12th" was a reference to August 12 - first day of the grouse-shooting season.

No Ron it was the people who still celebrate the Battle of the Boyne, with all it's associated bigotry who are living in the past.
Hope you had a great birthday.

Brendy, you miss quote me, the song is Here and the first verse goes
"It was gold and it was beautiful and it cost 2 pence a gram
He scored it on the ferry coming back from Amsterdam
He said it's just like Lebanese from the bygone days of yore
And when I can I like to smoke the hash my father scored"

Well what d'ya know.... I wasn't even aware that that song existed, Micca. Lovely parody you've done there.

Conrad however, has always brought out a certain creativity in me, and as 'the hash my father scored' was always a favourite subsitute phrase for us'uns, when we were growing up (much like 'I'll give you seven years penile servitude...' in The Black Velvet Band), the preceeding lines just seemed to run off the keyboard.

Sure Conrad's version is only a parody of the real original.

Like yours better, though!

How's the Orange leftovers getting on there Conrad, old stick?

B.

Funny thing. The Battle of the Boyne actually took place on the 1st of July and not on the 12th. The date has changed because England was 11 days behind the rest of Europe because they still used the Julian Calendar instead of the Gregorian Calendar which wasn't introduced into England until 1752. Folks rioted with the cry "give us back our eleven days."
