I'd been asking the very same question of both Peter and Richard, after having great fun duetting on this very chantey only a week or so back!

That'll teach me!! For I almost always use Mudcat as my first port of call (ha!) for lyrics, but this one must've slipped thru my net (ha! again)...

The original song is "Passant par Paris": lyrics and literal translation on another Mudcat thread and sheet music on some other site.

For those who care, I managed to track down the book that has "Paris, Here I Come" in both French & English. I found the 2007 printing.

I'd like to give a big thanks to Ken Lardner of ChantyCabin, because he steered me to that Harry Brown's CD & a few others when we met at the 2002 Lancaster Sea Music Festival.

It was in response to the query... I have this much money left... what would you buy?   LOL

Mike promtly commandeered them and started learning the songs we didn't already know. Good choices, Ken.

It's still not clear if this is a new song or a traditional song. The Harry Browns of Bristol certainly sing it on their CD titled Shipshape And Harry Fashion. Can anyone clarify this question?

Mike Kennedy doesn't know the answer for sure either and the Harry Browns website seems to be down.

At this past Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival, one of the volunteers, Mike Kennedy, sang "Paris here I come" at one of the sessions. In the hustle and bustle of the fest, I didn't get Mike's contact info. He mentioned that he learned it from a tape of the Harry Brownes of Bristol. It's one of those gems that hasn't yet made it into the repertoire of many U.S. chantey singers, I don't think. I couldn't find it in the DT, and wonder if anyone could post the lyrics. Thanks in advance! (or if you know how I can reach Mike Kennedy)
