Subject: RE: Obit: ANDY McGANN From: Liam's Brother Date: 20 Jul 04 - 10:53 PM I understand that Andy died at about 7:15 PM. At that very time, Brian Conway, one of his exceptional proteges, was introducing a couple of reels that had learned from Andy and was offering a tribute to him during a concert he and I were doing at South Street Seaport Museum. When friends would come from Ireland, I would always try to take them to a place where Andy McGann was playing. It never ceased to amaze visitors from Ireland that a fellow born in New York could play that way. Andy was, of course, one of the true all-time greats. RIP. All the best, Dan |
