Subject: RE: Four an' twenty virgins From: Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 23 Oct 98 - 01:36 PM It's called "The Ball of Kirriemuir". There was a clean version done by Kenneth McKellar many years ago, but it's best known as a "rugby song", one of the rude, bawdy songs so beloved of rugby players in the shower and in the bar after the game. The chorus is: Singing balls to your partner, Arses to the wall. If you've never been fucked on Saturday night, You've never been fucked at all. Do you really want to pursue this? Lhiats, Bobby Bob |
Subject: RE: Four an' twenty virgins From: Jerry Friedman Date: 23 Oct 98 - 01:45 PM If you do, a DT search for "Kerriemuir" will turn up approximately 5,281,007 verses. |
Subject: RE: Four an' twenty virgins From: Bruce O. Date: 23 Oct 98 - 02:50 PM The song appears to be modeled on "Up with Aley, Aley" in the Scare Songs file on my website, but didn't use it's tune, but "Bonny Jean of Aberdeen" (in same file). |
Subject: RE: Four an' twenty virgins From: Kiwi Date: 23 Oct 98 - 06:50 PM There are other titles, such as "The Gathering of the Clans", or "The Ball of Ballynore", but it's all essentially the same song. One of the ones where you can freely add your own verses - this is especially encouraged at the Renaissance Festivals. :) And, I swear to whatever deity you hold dear, there is a fellow by the name of Rex, apothecary at the NY and other Faires, who knows close to 1000 verses. Ye gods! Sla/n, Kiwi |

Subject: RE: Four an' twenty virgins From: Doctor John Date: 13 Nov 98 - 04:37 PM Smithsonian Folkways in their archives has a version of "The Ball of Ballinoor" sung by Cisco Houston. Not released. Anyone heard it. Oscar Brand had a recording of it on a 1970 RCA LP of bawdy songs and ballads. |
