Sasha Distel, singer, jazz guitarist, and sometime fiance of Brigitte Bardot, died today at the age of 71.

A great musician, sometimes underrated and poorly treated in the press because of his relationship with Bardot.

He always seemed such a nice man - and soo nice looking (well, I thought so when I was a precocious 14 year old, who was determined not to like either Donny Osmond, David Cassidy or any of the Bay City Rollers). Very sorry to hear that he has gone - had no idea he was 71.

In the UK Distel was only ever portrayed as a stereotypical French lothario, as famous for his teeth and tan as for his crooning. I was suprised to learn, during a recent television interview, that he was a renowned (in France) jazz guitarist and a successful songwriter. His most notable songwriting success being "The Good Life" adopted by Tony Bennett.
His death is something of a suprise, not least because he was so youthful looking. Hard to believe he was 71 and yet he seems to have been on TV for as long as I can remember, without ever seeming to age.

I really liked him as a siner, but I didn't know that he was a jazz guitarist/actor/songwriter. he will sadly missed.
