Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: John in Brisbane Date: 06 Aug 04 - 01:35 AM Found the tune as taim_sinte_ar_do_thuama. I'll need to do some more digging for what may be multiple tunes. If I post here as ABC Notation do you have an ABC Player? If not may I suggest that you download ABCMUS from Henrik Norbeck in the meantime (for PC). Regards, John Here's my interim version without aligned lyrics: X:1 T:taim_sinte_ar_do_thuama M:3/4 L:1/8 Q:1/4=140 K:CMaj clef=treble V:1 clef=TREBLE V:1 clef=TREBLE |"Am"z4 "C"D E|"C"G2 "Em"B2 "Am"A G|"C"G2 "C"G2 "C"G A|"C"c2 "C"e2 "C"d c| "C"c B "C"c2 "C"c B|"Am"A2 "C"G2 "C"E2|"Am"A2 "C"G E "C"C D|"C"E2 "G"D2 "C"C2| "C"C2 "C"C2 "C"E G|"Em"B2 "Am"A2 "C"G2|"C"G2 "C"G2 "C"G A|"C"c2 "C"e2 "C"d c| "C"c2 "C"c2 "C"c B|"Am"A A "C"G2 "C"E2|"Am"A2 "C"G E "C"C D|"C"E2 "G"D2 "C"C2| "C"C2 "C"C2| and chords: | Am C | / Em Am | C / / | / / / | / / / | Am C / | Am C / | / G C | / / / | Em Am C | / / / | / / / | / / / | Am C / | Am C / | / G C | / / | |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: John in Brisbane Date: 06 Aug 04 - 01:51 AM In fact I'll now wait until I get some further feedback. I can't find a source of any other tune - even though an alternative thread on this song suggests that there is. Adding the aligned lyrics is still a bit painful with the tools at my disposal, however I'll do so upon request. Regards, John PS The chords above are my best attempt at a tune that I played through only a couple of times. I've never heard the song before. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 06 Aug 04 - 06:53 AM I've never heard the song sung other than a cappella. I'm trying to imagine it with a chordal accompaniment... |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: John in Brisbane Date: 06 Aug 04 - 09:46 AM OK, here's a three part harmony to try. It's fairly ecclesiastical in nature, but then again so is the original tune. I've also slowed it down to 80 beats per min. Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: GUEST,neovolatile@yahoo.com Date: 06 Aug 04 - 11:54 PM Thank you for your attempts at helping. Obviously the Dead Can Dance version is quite a bit different from that which was loaded up for the ABCMus. That sounded more like a spritely march. What I was looking for is pretty Dorian and very slow. Guess I will wing it without guitar. Nice folks here, by the way! Ells |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: Blackcatter Date: 07 Aug 04 - 02:14 AM Try it with a drone of some sort. That the way DCD did it, right? It works really well with the buzz of the exhaust fan in the men's room at my church. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: GUEST,PJ Curtis Date: 07 Aug 04 - 09:13 AM The irish group Scullion recorded the original in 1980 which was released on their debut album on the Mulligan label. Philip King, a member of the group, put the music to the old Irish poem. I can confrm this as I was the producer/arranger of the song and the album. PJ Curtis. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Am Stretched on Your Grave From: GUEST,Geoff Lawes Date: 08 Aug 04 - 06:33 AM Nobody has mentioned the absolutely stunning version by Peta Webb and Ken Hall on their recent CD "AS CLOSE AS CAN BE". A haunting, unaccompanied harmony performance. Electrifying! Tape down the hairs on the back of your neck before you listen otherwise your shirts won't fit for a week. |
