The program is set for this year's sea music festival at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. It will be held on Saturday, October 16, 10am-5pm, with music at four venues; two stages on Hyde Street Pier, a stage in the new visitor center theatre, and in the shelterdeck of the square-rigged ship Balclutha, berthed at Hyde Street Pier. $3 donation asked for, but nobody turned away for lack of funds. Here's the lineup of performers:

Louis Killen, Tom Lewis, The Holdstocks, Allan MacLeod, Shay Black with his daughter Shosi, a "fiddle summit" with Kevin Burke, Bruce Molsky, and Hanneke Cassel, Richard Adrianowicz and Peter Kasin, Riggy, Malcolm Rigby, Waterbound, Skip Henderson and the Starboard Watch, Dogwatch Nautical Band, Jan Christensen, Mariel Vandersteel, Marika and Colin Cotter, Dave Nettell, Caroline McCaskey, Ebo Okokan, Celeste Bernardo-Dunn, The S.O.B's, Bruce Sherman, and Salty Walt and the Rattlin' Ratlines.

Hope to see visiting Mudcatters there! Website to go up soon at: www.nps.gov/safr/seafest.htm

Darn. Same weekend as the Getaway. Good thing I already have my plane ticket for that trip, or I'd be torn by indecision.
Have a good time, gang! I'll get there again, one of these years.

The one change on the schedule is that Malcolm Rigby will be performing solo where Waterbound is listed. Several 'catters will be performing: Radriano, Riggy, Lancslad, and me. Look for 'Catter Melani, who'll be volunteering at the stages.

Dear Secret Sneaky Santa,

Here are some hints about Chanteyranger.

He likes long walks on the beach, dots the letter "i" with a little heart and hates insincere people. He has absolutely no musical talent and sometimes isn't sure which part of the fiddle goes under his chin. He only took work as a park ranger because all of the positions on the local vinyl siding door-to-door sales team had been filled.

HOWEVER he puts together one hell of a Sea Music Festival which should be attended by everyone who reads this!

Hello, Cllr. Sorry you won't be here, but it's a bit of a distance!

Hi, Dave. I am moved to tears by your sincere and unapologetically lugubrious and incandescent didactive metrapolizative corbustimentalism.

In the words of the immortal C. Fox Smith from "Shanghai Passage":

Yes, they'll wonder in the mornin', what they drank last night;
They'll wonder just what hit 'em, if they show an ounce of fight;
They'll be scoffin' seaboot duff; they'll be suppin' handspike gruel,
Dodgin' the belayin' pin, an' cursin' Shanghai cruel.

Have a great time, gang!
Charley Noble, far away on the other coast

Hello Charley! I just came across the cassette tape of songs you made for me when you were last in SF. I trust you have glanced at the recent thread on "Sailor's Way?"

Great time was had by all -- the weather was a little off, and so the crowds were'nt quite as large as we've become used to at the festival, but there were still plenty of folks around. I had a great time, even if I couldn't make it to the late night sing. Louis Killin and Tom Lewis were great, as usual.

Peter, how did the sing go?

Thank you, Chanteyranger, for a first-class music event. It was rollicking good fun (for me and my wee one!), and I appreciate your kind gesture in inviting me to join in the closing session even though I wasn't on staff this year. That meant a lot to me.

Thanks for being up there with us, Claire. It would have been odd to see you in the audience during the finale, after all the years with Dogwatch.

I thought it went very well, and have gotten some good feedback from visitors and performers. Though overcast, the weather was balmy, and the rain cooperated with what the forecasters were saying, and held off until laqte saturday night, after the festival. The youngest performer, Shosi Black, at 6 years old had a great debut as a featured performer (with the help of her dad Shay Black). The fiddle summit was a blast. Meeting Kevin Burke the day before the festival was great. As we walked around the Balclutha, he told me of some family history in the maritime trades. Very interesting stuff. Though I couldn't check in on all the acts, I heard that louis Killen's singing at the Naval Songs workshop brought someone to tears. No surprise.

My thanks to all the performers, staff and volunteers that made this festival such a special event. Next year we'll order up clearer weather, and may change the date to September.

Radriano-

Did you surive? It's dangerous on the Hyde Street Pier late at night and Judy and I are still worried that in your enthusiasm you may have slipped over the side. If so I'm prepared to draft an appropriate memorial ballad to the tune of "Dead Horse."

Charley Noble
