Subject: MudGather Banbury Fest UK 9th Oct 2004
From: My guru always said
Date: 17 Aug 04 - 04:13 PM

I'm looking forward to hosting a Gather for Catters at the Banbury Festival on Saturday lunchtime (9/10) in The Reindeer. Hopefully this will involve a fair amount of meeting & drinking, but will probably descend into a Singaround / Session (possibly borrowing the Middle Bar Twig Rules) at some suitable point.

Not sure what time we'll start off yet (this is only in teh vague planning stage), but it'd be great if Catters & Friends could drop in & help to create a CatParty.

Ah.... Party games (now there's a thought), how about Charades of Song / Tune Titles (hopefully not too obscure)? Any ideas???

Anyone gonna turn up then??? I just know we've got loads of Catters performing at the Festival itself - El Greko, Cloudstreet, Cllr, Phot, Splott Man, Alanww & a large percentage of the Shellbacks to name but a few.

Here's the Banbury Festival Website

Hope to see / hear you there!!!!

Two NewCatters to the MudCafe - duellingbouzoukis and meself Moonunit, will also be playing at Banbury under the guise of Isambarde (we'll be joined by one poor Non-Cat). It is Isambarde policy to make every possible session and/or party that we can (booking/sound check commitments permitting ho hum)...

We know fellow Catpeoples Kitchen Piper and Cloudstreet (and potentially many more whose Cat identities are as clear to us as Mud)...

Anyhoo, I look forward to seeing you all there and putting faces to all the Catnames! In the meantime you can find us here:

Cheers Jude-unit x

Welcome & soon to be well met Moonunit, duellingbouzoukis & one poor non-Cat. Glad you'll be able to gather with us (pending schedule)!

Col Dear: Are these Shellback or Stewarding duties???? This is dreadful - however, gather time isn't written in stone as far as I know, maybe we won't clash after all!

Excellent news Morty & PoD, front & centre reserved! This gather will be built upon firm foundations with experienced socialites & debutantes! *grin*

Leadfingers: What a busy diary you have, we'll miss your medieval reparteeeeeee! Will claim hugs on the flip side.

Scoobydoo: Hope you can make it Yas! Will be good to see you there.

BTW: For those not 'in the know' - the Festival itself is run by Catters 'Merek'n'Dary', we hope they might be able to get away from their duties & share a glass with us at the Gather.

Would love to join in the MudGather, but like ColK subject to own duties -

Fiddler, Wuzzle, Mairi & MoorleyMan: Excellent! Will be good to see you all at the gather (schedules permitting).

Merek'n'Dary will be reading this thread when they get back on-line & I know that all arrangements are progressing well for the festival. Shouldn't be long before it's all tied up now they've got a bit of breathing space!!!

Looking forward to hearing El Greko again too!!

Good luck with Accommodation / Moorings....

Not sure at this point if Tig & The Badger are coming, but any Catters coming to the Gather can let me know if they'd like a MudCat Badge & I'll get them ordered up :-)

As long as Magician and Gillie manage to get back from Maderia on time this visit and there are not TOO many alarms etc we hope to make it this year.

If posssible let us have names for badges as soon as possible - if you definitely want one you can always send a 50p and a SAE to 7 Quarry Road, Norton, Doncaster DN6 9HS and we can send you one before hand although we are running the Watering Hole for the last week in September so not then!

Wonderful!!!! This has all the makings of an excellent Gather *grin*, am looking forward to meeting all arrivals.

Am also keeping fingers crossed that Shellback & Duty Schedules will not get in our way too much. As far as I know, this Gather is officially in the Program so I'm hoping that allowances will be made.....

Pat & I will be there, of course, but I think we're either doing our spoons thing, or hosting a sesh Saturday lunchtime/afternoon. Looking forward to seeing you all there, however.
We're hoping to bring Scooby Doo with us. I've got a new, smaller car, so I'm not sure if we can even get ourselves in yet (we do tend to bring a lot to festivals), Whitby will be a tryout.
Gosh I'm excited, and it's only August! (do you think this thread will top the 100?)

Still no real idea of timing for the Gather I'm afraid, but it would be Real Nice if it didn't clash with either the Big Sing hosted by Cllr & Phot, or a Session hosted by Splott Man, or a thing by Pat (Spoons), or a Performance by El Greko himself.

I guess it'll depend on what Merek'n'Dary can arrange with the Reindeer for us! Will post definitive answers here as soon as they're set & just hope that Catters can make it along to the Meet if only for a short... *grin* (Mine's a Pint)

Will be good to hear you again Mrs Lemon!

Hope you can make it Moses, hugs to Honey :-)

News! News!

The program is still in the process of being 'Tweaked', which is why the web-pages don't have it yet - it should be completely updated by 31st August! Lucky for me as I've been able to negotiate the Gather into a more 'Catter-friendly' arrangement which will be in the Program as follows:

Gather starts at on Saturday 9th October at 2pm in the front bar of the Reindeer.

Intend to move into the Globe Room (at the back) when various Morris peoples have finished their lunch (2.30, 3ish). We can continue just Gathering & evolve into a Sing / Session....

Those who've been in the Globe Room will recall that it's a Brill room for a Sing, but it is a passageway to the kitchen, so staff will be wandering through from time to time.

If Catters (& stray Festivalites) want to carry on   then we could pass the 'Host Baton' over to another responsible Cat to keep the Sing going if needs be until the Room is taken over officially at 7pm (which I think is another Sing!)

Hopefully starting at 2pm will give Cats the chance to go to the various Sings & Concerts (especially El Greko's) & still be able to join in the Gather! I hope you'll approve of this arrangement!!

Glad you can make it Snuffy, JudeL & Soupdragon!!!
Hope your arrangements work out OK ScoobyDoo, would be good if you can make it.

Hey John Routledge - you gonna make it too? Would be good to hear / see you again!

Phot: Couldn't have you & Cllr miss the Gather could I? Didn't want to miss your Sing either *grin*

Have had a couple of enquiries about Accomodation locally (unable to camp) - any suggestions? Any locals got a spare room?

The other thing is..... has there been a Mudcat Gather in the UK before this one that's actually been Officially Programmed? Or are we the first?????

gosh that sounds fun. I love Banbury. Weather permitting you should all go to the Rollrights which is fairly nearby--I have spent a couple of evenings there playing music around a campfire (built in regulation firedishes and as part of sponsored events, but...)

There is also a good pub up the road.

It's a magical, inspiring stone circle.

Well the 9th is my birthday, so although I won't make it all the way from Scotland, I expect a toast from the assembled Catters. I'm on holiday for 2 weeks, starting Wed next, and then again from 4th Nov for 2 weeks, with a music weekend on the Black Isle in October, so my chances of making Banbury are v remote. Enjoy yourselves Catters; I will be at Loughstock though!

GUEST,skipy: Fab, see you there, informal attire!

alanww: Late Dear? Puffed out & in need of refreshment perhaps?

GUEST,devil: You gonna pop in to meet us MadCatters at the Gather then?

Access All Areas (love that handle): Of course CatFriends will be welcome as will you as a Catter, this really isn't a private party, just a meet of like-minded MudCat Folkies putting names to faces & all that stuff!! Be welcome.....

John 'Giok' MacKenzie: Sounds like we'll just miss you down South but will raise a glass to your Birthday!!! See you at Portaferry for pancakes *grin*

Splott Man: First round? Now isn't that a silly question - lovely idea, but I don't think my plastic's up to the task *sigh* don't forget to take a Piccy of Scoobydoo on the roofrack so we can record it in the Events section!!!!

We're in the Community College (or whatever this year's name is), indoor camping. Always good for a late sing n the refectory.

Come and sing some BIG SONGS! You can always check in on the MudGather a bit later...

Just been in touch with the Reindeer & all is well for Saturday. The Globe Room might be cleared away by 2pm, so if we're not obvious (Badges, T Shirts, Silly Welcoming Grins) in the bar, try round back!

The landlord is happy for 'children' even 'children who are also MudCatters' to be in the Globe Room, but not in the Bar areas. Knowing Catters I'm sure that the 'children' will probably be better-behaved than some of the 'adults', but we're welcoming 'adults' too *grin*

Hurrah for Banbury! I've just had an armpit of a week at work (I work as a guitar teacher in schools) so some adult conversation will make a welcome change and possibly stop my brain trickling out of my ears!

See y'all there!

Fab news that Miskin Man is coming!

Sorry you can't come Tig & the Badger, we'll miss you both, catch you on the Flip Side!

Boats & Mootlefish - can you remember to 'suck' not 'crunch' during the quiet songs please? Then crunch to your hearts content during the big choruses *grin*

Hear that Les Sullivan may be popping in to see us, wonderful! Need to get his new CD.

Safe journeys All!!!!

Was Les Sullivan masquerading under one of those names, Hil, or was he a GUEST?

Snuffy

Les = Guest, Frog, Carys = Frogette.

I think Les was slumming it, because he's usually a howling toad....

I think that Rosie Lee (Freda's friend) just missed the Mudgather, but she sang in the evening session.
