Subject: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: GUEST,*daylia* Date: 26 Aug 04 - 08:50 AM For the last week or so, when I open this site I see I'm logged in. But as soon as I open a thread, I'm not! I click *log in*, it accepts my screen name and password just fine, tells me I'm logged in again - but as soon as I click Lyrics and Knowledge or try to access my personal page, somehow I'm logged out again. I searched for "logging in problems" on the forum database, but got no results. I checked "internet options" on my browser to make sure cookies were still enabled, and as far as I can see everything is fine EXCEPT the Mudcat cookie. It's disappeared or something, so I'm stuck posting as GUEST. What's going on? Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks, daylia |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: GUEST,MMario Date: 26 Aug 04 - 09:23 AM try clearing your internet cache. if that fails - email joe or jeff |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 26 Aug 04 - 09:40 AM I was having that sort of hassle for a couple of weeks - flushed the cache and it finally went away. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: GUEST,*daylia* Date: 26 Aug 04 - 09:40 AM Thanks MMario - I just cleared all temp internet files and cookies (I think that's what you mean?), tried to log in again, and as you can see ... :-( Guess I'll ask Joe or Jeff, then. Thanks! daylia |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: Bill D Date: 26 Aug 04 - 10:28 AM strange things happen...I can log in with the Firefox browser, or the Opera 7.5 browser, but not with the Opera 6.04 browser I like a lot. I have cleared caches, looked at firewall settings, thrown salt over my shoulder..but...*shrug*...(This happens only on my new WinXP computer...on the old Win98 machine, I can still dialup and log in on ANY browser...but that connection will be gone soon.) It is not a big deal, as I can use what works, but curious, anyway. *daylia*...you might try a different browser to see if it makes any difference. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: GUEST,*daylia* Date: 26 Aug 04 - 10:46 AM No it's not that big a deal, Bill, but it's annoying. Same thing happens when I try Netscape instead of IE, and those are the only 2 browsers on my computer (so far). I just followed very carefully through Joe's easy step-by-step instructions for resetting a lost cookie in the Help! section, and still, AARRRRGGGHHHHH! Maybe I'll just wait a few days and see what happens. Thanks, all. daylia |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: GUEST,MMario Date: 26 Aug 04 - 11:01 AM thrown salt over my shoulder *chortle* Silly man! That's for "URL not found" errors! For bad logins you have to spin three times widdershins and spit to your left. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: *daylia* Date: 26 Aug 04 - 11:04 AM Ha! That was a short few days! Here I am on Netscape AGAIN, and after three futile attempts to log in .... Voila! Are the Higher Cyber-Powers trying to mess me up or something? Or no .... *gasp* .... maybe it's got more to do with your wonderful Auric Vibrations, Bill! ;-) daylia |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: Jeri Date: 26 Aug 04 - 11:36 AM For future reference, there's a Help Forum (see banner at top of page). When you get there, there's a link that says If you're having trouble with your membership, please see Joe's advice in the FAQ. It seems you already fixed your problem with the often successful "Fooling With It Until it Works" (FWITIW) method, though. This has usually been effective for most problems I've had. It hasn't worked so far in trying to discover the mysterious "new hardware" my computer keeps telling me I've attached, but it's probably my own fault. I just haven't Fooled With It enough. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: GUEST Date: 26 Aug 04 - 11:47 AM FWITTIW (Fool With IT 'Til It Works - pronounced Fwhite-too) I've been FWItE-ing my computer! All the live long day I've been FWITE-ing my computer Just to pass the time away. Can't you hear the FWITTIW blowing login before it goes bust? Can't you hear the FWITTIW blowing? Bill Gates eat my dust! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: the fence Date: 27 Aug 04 - 03:29 AM I had this problem for a week "daylia", it seemed to sort itself out as soon as someone sent me a personal message. After that, no problems. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: GUEST,*daylia* Date: 27 Aug 04 - 07:11 AM Well as you can see, it's back to the drawing board ... PLEASE SOMEBODY SEND ME A PM! (not that I'd know it if you did *sigh*) Thank to everyone for letting me know I'm not the only one with this problem. daylia Martin Gibson, if you're reading this thread, now you know why I haven't returned the PM you sent a week ago. I'm cyber-challenged. :-( |

Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: Jeri Date: 27 Aug 04 - 12:24 PM Daylia, did you manually clear the stuff out, or just hit the 'Clear cache' button? You've got all the symptoms of a corrupt cookie. Instuctions for manually clearing things out are in Joe's advice, linked to in my previous message. Here's a thread in the Help Forum with davidkiddnet having the same problem you're having, followed by Joe's advice. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: *daylia* Date: 27 Aug 04 - 03:58 PM Jeri, I just followed the advice Joe gave to david for resetting his cookie on Netscape, and for the first time all week I've been able to return my PM's! And I'm still logged in! I can't believe it! HA! :-) Thanks for the link! I just hope my luck lasts -- and that I can somehow fix the problem on IE too. IE seems trickier to work with in this respect, but I DO like it better than Netscape. Thanks again, Jeri and all -- daylia |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: *daylia* Date: 27 Aug 04 - 04:27 PM And here I am on IE too! Will wonders ever cease .... GUEST, thanks for the song! :-) And your last line bears repeating (finally) ... Bill Gates eat my dust! daylia |
Subject: RE: Tech: Why can't I log in? From: Bill D Date: 27 Aug 04 - 07:53 PM oh, YEAH...my auric vibrations! I'll take credit...sure....(but why can't I get 'em to work for ME?) |
