Subject: RE: childrens workshop ideas From: Jeanie Date: 08 Sep 04 - 12:28 PM Hello - Are your workshops to be limited to music and music-making, or are you looking at a wider range of activities ? If the latter, then here are a couple of books packed full of games and activities just right for this age-group: "100 + Ideas for Drama" by Anna Scher & Charles Verrall (of the Anna Scher Children's Theatre) publ. Heinemmann ISBN 0-435-18799-6 and "The Drama Ideas Bank" by Mary Brooks publ. KCP Publications ISBN 1-84321-030-4 If you *are* looking for things not-just-musical, I can add some more specific sessions here that have been successful and fun. - jeanie |

Subject: RE: childrens workshop ideas From: death by whisky Date: 09 Sep 04 - 11:43 AM Hi Jeanie,I picked up that book yesterday from the library, along with "another 100 ideas...".I'm quite happy to do drama, music whatever as long as its fun.The sessions are scheduled to be one hour long at least until Christmas,so there'll be a show along the way somewhere. So far we've done Shrek 2,cherades and tik-tok. |
Subject: RE: childrens workshop ideas From: Red and White Rabbit Date: 09 Sep 04 - 12:33 PM In have done junk percussion groups, drama, whistle workshops, ocarina workshops and the dreaded recorders with the same age range but I am just waiting for my latest thing to arrive from the States - a cardboard appalachian dulcimer and a cardboard banjo - I intend to use them as patterns to get the kids to make their own and then I will endeavour to tach my non- musical bunch to play them! |
Subject: RE: childrens workshop ideas From: death by whisky Date: 10 Sep 04 - 09:57 AM I did a project with"Urban Strawberry Lunch", building musical strctures from plastic piping, hubcaps etc.You could also climb on these things. If there's any way of getting the patterns or an address or publication.Thanks. |
Subject: RE: childrens workshop ideas From: Jen M Date: 10 Sep 04 - 10:20 PM My daughter and I did a home made instrument workshop, the best one (because it required little prep and the kids needed very little help) was to put rice or bb's into plastic eggs, tape them shut and then cover with poly clay (ie Sculpey brand)they rolled the clay out wrapped the egg and then embellished. We took them home to bake them. The kids took home some beautiful animal or person shakers. They were free to design whatever they liked - used up most of my clay odds and ends that had been sitting around for years! |
