Subject: New Birthday song from CapriUni From: CapriUni Date: 17 Sep 04 - 04:16 PM This song was inspired, in small part, by this thread: Alternatives to 'Happy Birthday', and, in large part, by the friend I wrote it for. (And yes, I'm posting this with her permission... no, she is not a Mudcatter -- yet). She is a young woman of great spirit. But she had come through a very diffecult year, and had to spend the day dealing with State Bureaucracy (such is the reward for passing legal milestones). And the "Happy Birthday" song is just too soppy a ditty for the likes of her. The tune is very slightly adapted from Vive L'Amour -- click to play (just added one syllable to one line of the chorus). Another year's over and you still survive! And so your friends all sing! Because of your spirit, we're glad you're alive! And so your friends all sing! Chorus: And though our singing may be out of key, we will keep singing with gusto, you see. Because that's how you've taught us to be! And so your friends all sing! (insert verses specific to the Birthday Person of Honor -- deleted, here, for reasons of privacy) The world is much nicer because you are here! And so your friends all sing! We'll say it all over, come this time next year, And so your friends all sing! (Chorus) |

Subject: RE: New Birthday song from CapriUni From: katlaughing Date: 17 Sep 04 - 04:43 PM Excellent! I like the way it scans and would be easy to get folks to remember in order to sing along. Thanks for sharing! |
Subject: RE: New Birthday song from CapriUni From: CapriUni Date: 17 Sep 04 - 07:26 PM Thanks, Teresa and Kat -- and yes, ease of learning/joining in was key point. And the first line in the chorus doesn't give the shy singers any excuse (at least, no "But I can't sing!" excuse ;-)) |
Subject: RE: New Birthday song from CapriUni From: frogprince Date: 17 Sep 04 - 09:12 PM And for ten year old kids, or adults you know with the minds of ten year old kids; I learned this thirty-some years ago, to the tune of "The Volga Boatman": Happy Birrrthday; Happy Birrrthday; Sin and sorrow fill the air; People dying ev'rywhere; Happy Birrrthday; Happy Birrrthday. |
Subject: RE: New Birthday song from CapriUni From: CapriUni Date: 17 Sep 04 - 09:16 PM Frog -- heh. Yeah, that's cute. But this person is a friend of mine, and I wanted to ease her angst. But that song would be good for someone who is full of himself... (why do I assume it would be a "he?" I dunno -- I just do.) |
Subject: RE: New Birthday song from CapriUni From: CapriUni Date: 11 Jul 12 - 04:24 PM Just thought I'd note that I made a YouTube Video of the song a couple of days ago: A Birthday Song for Old(er) Farts... And I put it up with a "Creative Commons License," so folks could repost it with their own vocals, and maybe stick in a verse of their own. I've just got to say: I'm glad I mentioned singing off-key, in the lyrics, 'cause I had to strain to hit a couple of the high notes... ;-) |
