Could this provoke a mass immigration to Texas of all those people who are fed up with the prevalence of 'Irish' in Folk .

Sounds great to me--I like music with words...
Could be the Panhandle?

That should get him started.

I wuz gonna say, he couldn't be lookin' too hard.   Thanks, Sleepless Dad. You're right. A start, but will put him in touch with more. Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston -- all have big, active groups and annual festivals, which bring participants from other areas of the state. (1st site = Southwest Celtic Music Ass'n; 2nd = North Texas Irish Festival.)   Tw

Buy a CD or two from Mudcatter Jed Marum. He is based in Dallas and does Texas-Celtic material.

Also check out the nightclub scene in Austin. It is one of the ten largest cities in the US and rivals Nashville for live music.

Thanks pdq!

Lots of good Celtic music in Texas - where ya looking? It's a big state. Here're some big and very very good festivals:

Amarillo here
Dallas here
Fort Worth here
Austin here
Corpus Christi here
Midland here

Most of the big towns have local/regional organizations, most have weekly sessions, and live performances ... The Southwest Celic Music Association's site (noted above) is excellent - here again is the link to it SCMA.

Look through it, you'll find performers listed from towns all over Texas, plus contact info for them. You'll also find venues listed, and contact info - and there's a large and valuable list of links on the SCMA site too ... happy hunting ... come back with specific questions, if ya got 'em ...
