Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: greg stephens Date: 01 Oct 04 - 11:14 AM Well, I expect there's a website somewhere, but I cant do blue clickies(cabletv internet doesnt allow it). I know it's at the Folk House, 40a Park Street, Bristol. It lasts all week end, many bands, Uk and Louisiana. I'm playing with the Boat Band for the Friday night dance. See you there. |

Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Dead Horse Date: 01 Oct 04 - 08:21 PM http://www.geocities.com/bristol_cajun/index.htm There ya go. I shall be there in my "Flammes den Fer" & ragin' purple. If ya wants a teefer player, cheap, don't hesitate to ask me Greg!!!! |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: greg stephens Date: 02 Oct 04 - 02:27 AM How cheap, that's the question |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: GUEST,anonanonanon Date: 02 Oct 04 - 09:27 AM I recall the Bedminster bayous! Crawfish fresh from the Malago! Wrestling 'gators in the Cut! Dancing the Totterdown Two-step when City won! Schoolboy French with a Knowle West accent! Not to mention Clifton "Suspension Bridge" Chenier. Great that Bristol's true cultural heritage is being recognised at last.... |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Fibula Mattock Date: 02 Oct 04 - 06:08 PM ROTFL! (especially the idea of catching something other than legionnaire's disease from the Malago). |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: greg stephens Date: 02 Oct 04 - 06:35 PM I have brought laughter to so many people, spending my life playing the banjo, traditional folk music and cajun dance tunes. One of these days I am going to buy a bodhran and read Lady Diana Studies at the University of Slough. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: GUEST,Peter from Essex Date: 03 Oct 04 - 06:53 AM Looks like a one day event spread over three days. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: greg stephens Date: 03 Oct 04 - 08:01 AM How do you mean, a one day event spread over three days, Peter from Essex? I've just looked at the schedule, and there appears to be a Friday evening dance, a a Sat afternoon dance, a saturday evening dance, a Sunday eafternoon dance and a Sunday evening dance. Plus assorted instrumental and dance workshops, plus late-night venue. how do you fit that lot into one day? It sounds to me like a perfectly standard weekend cajun festival. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Fibula Mattock Date: 03 Oct 04 - 08:10 AM pah! dancing is out for me, I'm afraid - I'm hobbling around on crutches. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Dead Horse Date: 03 Oct 04 - 06:41 PM ......and the Boatband said "Let us play" and lo, the lame could dance! |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: greg stephens Date: 03 Oct 04 - 06:51 PM Hobbling is fine by me. There is a well known one-legged lass in Bristol who always turns out for a dance to the Boat Band's infectious strains. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 03 Oct 04 - 11:05 PM Waht they holding it there for? it's bloody miles away! |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: GUEST,Peter from Essex Date: 04 Oct 04 - 02:42 AM Greg, looking at the entry in CajunUK - five bands over three days. That is spreading things very thinly. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: greg stephens Date: 04 Oct 04 - 04:52 AM Quantity isn't everything, Peter. We're playing the Friday night dance. How many bands do you need for a Friday night dance? |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Mr Red Date: 04 Oct 04 - 07:55 AM Don't you dare mock us bodhran players Greg - I may just bring my Bodhrans and I may just play them!!!! FWIW I can only do Fri - due to other commitments and, of course ...... Boat Band are on. I can't buy tickets today because I forgot to bring my wallet (and glasses) to work (temprary at that). I hope they still have tickets tonight. You will spot me if I make it. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Mr Red Date: 04 Oct 04 - 07:58 AM I forgot I did find the Folk House on a jaunt recently. It is about 400 yds uphill towards Clifton - on the right down an pedestrian alley between shops. The uphill shop is a Japanesey womans' dress shop with plenty of white paint. I dunno where to park - but the main street is a no-no. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: greg stephens Date: 07 Oct 04 - 04:47 AM Bring your bodhran and join in by all means, Mr Red, you are very welcome. Most festival appearances by the Boat Band seem to end up with a load of riff-raff on stage joining in, we operate a socially inclusive policy. |
Subject: RE: Bristol Cajun Festival From: Mr Red Date: 10 Oct 04 - 06:49 AM Thanks for the invite, I would have but I didn't catch this thread in time, I can't say I ever accompanied Cajun but that would never stop me. Given a smidgen of ego (stop laughing all of you) & I would have gambled on it but I went with expectations of a really good bop and I was not dissapointed. Particularly since I was dancing with ladies of differing skill levels. Maybe next time Greg, but I may prefer to dance - it was most enjoyable. |
