I have been trying to get these lyrics for years. I have two John McCormick transfers of fair quality but just cannot understand certain words. By the way, the song was written in 1862 by Edmund O'Rourke (alias Falconer). Thanks!

There are many different songs with Killarney in the title such as "Dear old Killarney" or "How Can You Buy Killarney". John McCormack recorded the latter, along with "Killarney Killarney". I have the words to all of these and will be happy to post the ones u wish.

Bobby thanks for the reply and sorry about the ambiguity. I quess I could have just as easily requested lyrics for a song about an Irish rebel! This song is simply called KILARNEY. One notable verse in song is; Angels fold thier wings and rest in that Eden of the West.

I have the lyrics to Killarney (not Kilarney) in my collection.

The song begins with "By Killarney's lakes and fells, Em'rald isles and winding bays;

I am afraid I have a floppy disk which contains the song at home, and I am going to copy the lyrics on this forum (hopefully tomorrow). Just wait a day or so.

That sounds like it, Teru. As for the mispelling, my apologies to all those folks fortunate enough to live or to have descended from KILLARNEY.

Tim

Dear Tim,

As I promised yesterday, I am sending you the words to Killarney as follows.

KILLARNEY

By Killarney's lakes and fells,
Em'rald isles and winding bays;
Mountain paths and woodland dells,
Mem'ry ever fondly strays.
Bounteous nature loves all lands
Beauty wonders ev'rywhere;
Footprints leaves on many strand,
But her home is surely there!
Angels fold their wings and rest,
In that Eden of the west
Beauty's home Killarney,
Heaven's reflex Killarney.

No place else can charm the eye,
With such bright and varied tints,
Ev'ry rock that you pass by,
Verdure broiders or besprints.
Virgin there the green grass grows
Ev'ry morn Spring's natal day;
Bright-hued berries daff the snows,
Smiling winter's frown away.
Angels often pausing there,
Doubt if Eden were more fair,
Beauty's home Killarney,
Heaven's reflex Killarney.

Innisfallen's ruin'd shrine
May suggest a passing sigh.
But man's faith can ne'er decline
Such God wonders floating by.
Castle Lough and Glena Bay,
Mountains Tore and Eagle's nest,
Still at Mucross you must pray,
Though the monks are now at rest.
Angels wonder not that man
There would fain prolong life's span
Beauty's home Killarney,
Heaven's reflex Killarney.

Music there for Echo dwells,
Makes each sound a Harmony,
Many-voic'd the chorus swells
Till it faints in ecstasy.
With the charmful tints below
Seems the Heaven above to vie,
All rich colours that we know
Tinge the cloud-wreaths in that sky.
Wings of Angels so might shine
Glancing back soft light divine,
Beauty's home Killarney,
Heaven's reflex Killarney.

I hope you enjoy your folk song life.

With my best wishes

Teru (Teruhiko Kachi, Japan)
