I had a similar thought some years ago and was unable to decode the chords. I'd also be interested if someone has figured them out. It's a pretty scary song if you've been any where near the situation described.

Well, I am an impatient sort sometimes. Bob has not yet answered my e-mail. I do not fault him. I think he published the chords somewhere. Anyone else know 'em?

Finally found the following sites:

Second Site


The second site is a chord transcription of the tune as done by David Wilcox. It appears to be the same, but there are sample chord structures to guide you if you don't know a D+2 chord. Also, the second says it is in "Drop D" tuning. Another source says that Bob does the song in standard tuning.

I know the chords are right 'cause it makes me cry to play it; just like Bob's version makes me cry when I hear it.
