Subject: Gwilym says hi From: Tradsinger Date: 25 Oct 04 - 06:28 PM I've just joined Mudcat. For those who don't know me (and even those who do), I'm a singer in the UK. (http://www.cmarge.demon.co.uk/gwilym/index.htm) Through Mudcat I'd like to: - keep in touch with folky friends in the UK and USA - make some new ones - when possible, add to the discussions on various songs - pick people's brains about songs Let me start by saying that I am looking for a decent C/F melodeon in the UK so that I can bid farewell to my nice but loud Hohner Erica. Does anyone have a good quality C/F lying around that they are not using? Hope to hear from someone Love you all Gwilym http://www.cmarge.demon.co.uk/gwilym/index.htm |
Subject: RE: Gwilym says hi From: Crane Driver Date: 25 Oct 04 - 06:35 PM Hi Gwilym - you sound like another member of the 'Cat's Welsh contingent - are you based in the principality? Sorry I can't help with the melodeon - I'm a concertina man meself. (I thought all melodeons were loud?) (Ducks for the door) Andrew |
Subject: RE: Gwilym says hi From: Tradsinger Date: 25 Oct 04 - 06:40 PM I've got a Welsh name and a Hampshire accent - don't ask, just blame the parents! So I'm only half Welsh (waist downwards). I was brought up in Portsmouth but have lived in Gloucestershire for over 30 years. Must go and get my beauty sleep. We'll meet again in cyberspace. Ciao. G |

Subject: RE: Gwilym says hi From: Crane Driver Date: 25 Oct 04 - 07:11 PM My mate Ken is also half Welsh (from the waist down) - it means he dances like a Welshman and sings like an Englishman - bit of a bad deal really. Andrew |

Welcome (although I don't come on here as often as I'd like). I hope you have luck looking for your C/F - a nicer sounding key deserves a better box :-) Cheers Squeezy |

Subject: RE: Gwilym says hi From: KathWestra Date: 25 Oct 04 - 11:09 PM Hey Gwilym, Welcome! I moved away from D.C. in early October, and now live in Rockland, Maine. Send me an e-mail and I'll give you all the particulars. You'll enjoy the Mudcat, and I'm sure will have lots to contribute to the music-related discussions. There's lots of folks you've met (including me) who will be glad to see you. Hugs, Kathy p.s. You might want to put your melodeon query in its very own thread, since it's really a separate topic from "Gwilym says hi." I expect you'll generate more responses with a thread title like "Can anyone help me find a good C/F melodeon?" Just a thought... |
Subject: RE: Gwilym says hi From: Ferrara Date: 26 Oct 04 - 12:04 AM Hi right back, Gwilym, am Dee-Lighted that you've wandered into the Mudcat Cafe. Just read some of the stories on your web site, enjoyed them very much. I met Phyllis Marks this summer at the WV Folk Festival. Her voice is shaky now but still clear and beautiful. It was her 50th year of singing at that festival. She sang a great variant of Eggs & Marrowbone but said it has never been recorded. Don't suppose you managed to record it? Rita Ferrara |

Subject: RE: Gwilym says hi From: Tradsinger Date: 26 Oct 04 - 01:34 PM It was lovely to get all your messages of greetings. Some replies: Crane Driver - sorry to hear about your mate, Ken. Bummer. Alanww - good to see you, mate. Look forward to some more singing with you. Bill, Lorraine, Kathy and Rita - I'll be in touch. Rita - Phyllis Marks lied to you - I recorded her singing her version of Marrowbones in 1998! Kathy - I'll take your advice on the melodeon front and I'll email you in Maine. Got your email address from Lisa and Charlie the other day. Sian - I'll send you a photo!!! Tea's ready. Must go xxxx Gwilym |
