From: cballard@chorus.net

I'm looking for the lyrics to a song that starts out like this (I think): "Oh, I love you, said the sparrow to the tree. I will always let you be what you will be...."

Here's a clue from another thread:

Thread Name: Hedge and Donna - Where are they now ?
Subject: RE: Hedge and Donna - Where are they now ?

"Oh, I love you," said the sparrow to the tree. "I will always let you be what you would be." "In the autumn, in the spring, I will give you songs to sing."

This was a H&D lullaby that I sang to my children as they were growing up. There are more verses that I forgot... I lost my vinyl moving from Canada back to the States. I'm encouraged by this thread to FIND their wonderful songs again.

    Thanks for everyone's sharing,
    Sharon

Can anybody come up with the rest?
-Joe-

Will you take me
underneath your (hallowed light? hollow lie?)
and protect me
even through the darkest night

in the autumn..

I sang this to my daughter who is now 33. She wants to learn it so she can sing it to her own daughter, due May 6. That second verse is
Will you take me
Underneath your haloed light
and protect me
even through the winter's night
in the autumn in the spring
I will bring you songs to sing.

Such a beautiful tune.
I have the vinyl but wish I had a file I could add to Itunes. I can't find a recording online anywhere. Whatever happened to Hedge and Donna?

THE SPARROW AND THE TREE

"Oh, I love you," said the sparrow to the tree.
"I would always let you be what you would be.
In the autumn in the spring
I will give you songs to sing.

"Will you take me underneath your haloed light
And protect me even through the winter's night?
In the autumn in the spring
I will give you songs to sing.

"Oh, I love you," said the sparrow to the tree.
"I would always let you be what you would be.
In the autumn in the spring,
I will give you songs to sing."

I followed the link to the Facebook page but I could not see how to play or download any music. I am not very experienced at using Facebook, and generally find it confusing. Could you provide some hints?

Jim, on their Facebook page under the picture on the left hand side you will see:

About
See the discography along with download links here (for some strange reason...
More

Clicking on more reveals a link to their discography page. On that page clicking on an album cover reveals a link to a download site for that album. Copy and paste that link into the address bar and voila.

May I recommend Hedge and Donna 2, which I am currently listening to, it is very nice.

OK, I tried again and found that in order to download their music I first have to download and install some software called RapidShare.

No thanks.

said the sparrow
to the tree
i will always.. (echo) i will always
(together) let you be what you must be

in the autumn in the spring
i will give you songs to sing

will you take me... (echo) will you take me
underneath your weather wing
and protect me... (echo) and protect me
(together) even through the darkest things

(together) in the autumn in the spring
i will give you songs to sing

Subject: RE: Publishing rights for Sparrow and the Tree

I am trying to find the publisher so I can publish the lyrics in a book I wrote for my wife called Organ Donor Handbook. I sang this song to her while she was in a comma being prepared for organ donation. Ha or River, gave her heart, lungs, liver and kidneys to five recipients when it was all over.

Does anyone know who the publisher is? I'd like to share the lyrics in her book.

Buddy Mix
