Shirley Collins was on the Paul Jones show last night ( 28th Oct ) on BBC radio 4

She was talking about her book 'America over the water' which is about the time she spent travelling in America with archivist Alan Lomax

You can read details of the songs played on the show and listen to it again ( until next Thursday ) here

Shirley Collins

I have not had the chance to listen to the program yet but I will do

Heard some of this by chance in the car. Definitely recommended! Will have to get hardware sorted so I can hear it again. Does anyone know of any CD/suchlike with this music on?

Yes.A Five CD box set on Atlantic "Sounds of the South" and on several CD's on the Rounder Label "Southern Journey Series".

The material was originally on about 6 vinyl albums on the Atlantic label and possibly 10 ? on the Prestige label.

Lomax did a series of programmes for the BBC using this material (some of it) back around 1961/62

Good listening.

I listened to this programme and it was brilliant, Paul Jones Blues Show, a better folk music programme than Mike Hardings folk music programme.
