Subject: Need T. Makem's 'gonna put on walking boots'
From: Jennifer Burdoo
Date: 13 Nov 98 - 02:47 PM

Heard this on an old LP and am trying to learn it but can't find the lyrics anywhere. Anyone got 'em?

The chorus goes:

I'm gonna put on me walking boots
I'm gonna dance in the golden sand
I'm gonna sing 'til the mountains ring
I'm gonna walk all over this land

Thanks, Jennifer

Subject: Lyr Add: I'M GONNA PUT ON MY WALKING BOOTS (Makem)

Found at AllTheLyrics.com:

I'M GONNA PUT ON MY WALKING BOOTS
Tommy Makem

1. I'm gonna go where the cold winds blow.
I'm gonna splash in the pouring rain.
I'm gonna run in the winter snow
To the ends of the earth and back again.

CHORUS: I'm gonna put on my walking boots.
I'm gonna dance in the morning sand.
I'm gonna sing 'til the mountains ring.
I'm gonna walk all over this land.

2. I'm gonna go where the winds are warm.
I'm gonna sing to the rocks and trees.
I'm gonna laugh at the lightning storm,
Whistle a tune with the evening breeze.

3. I'm gonna follow the wild bird's call.
I'm gonna roam where the air is clean.
I'm gonna walk when the brown leaves fall.
I'm gonna run when the leaves turn green.

4. I'm gonna cross that rolling water.
I'm gonna romp in the morning dew.
I'm gonna love a rich man's daughter.
I'm gonna love a poor one too.

5. I'm gonna dine on milk and honey.
I'm gonna sip that blood red wine.
I'm gonna turn bad weather sunny.
I'm gonna have me a good old time.

[Oddly, though, I can't find what album this might have been recorded on.]

I've got it on an LP, but haven't seen it (or looked for it) in years. I DID like the song, but then most anything by Tommy Makem was worth listening to. I seem to remember that it was on a Columbia album. That's not too surprising, though, as the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem albums were mostly on Columbia.

I just made a check at good ol' wikipedia and came up with
Tommy Makem Sings Tommy Makem (1968) - Columbia
In the Dark Green Wood (1969) - Columbia

It pretty much had to be one of those two albums, at least if my memory serves me rightly that it was on Columbia. His next two were on GWP, I have one of those as well, but I am almost certain that I am right.

Oh, I wonder if Jennifer is still looking; I see that she hasn't posted under that name since 23-Aug-99.

    * 3. Farewell To Carlingford (2:46)
    * 4. You Are Always On My Mind (2:00)
    * 5. Four Green Fields (2:46)
    * 6. The Morning After Blues (1:38)
    * 7. I'm Going Home To Mary (2:37)
    * 8. In The Dark Green Wood (2:31)
    * 9. The Ship's Coming In (1:58)
    * 10. Trouble On My Mind (2:14)
