The Following gig will be taking place in Harlow on Saturday 6th November

Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer

Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner

8.00pm at The Essex Skipper Pub, The Stow Harlow Essex.

Admission will be £5.00 payable on the door.

Each act is highly regarded in their own field and it will be a entertaining and contrasting evening with driving intrumental music and enchanting vocal harmonies.

The original bill has been amended at the last moment due to unforseen circumstances.

Anyone who bought the original tickets, will be offered a refund, though it's hoped you will like the revised bill.

That sounds more than good enough to lure me out to Harlow! Both duos gave memorable performances at the great little Moreton Midsummer Festival and I look forward very much to seeing them again.

There used to be a folk club at the Essex Skipper in the sixties early seventies, when I lived in the town. Brings back memories.

Hope it goes well.

Fiest time I ever came to Harlow was to sing at the Essex Skipper woith a bunch of Oxford Heritage people.

But I'll be missing this one since I'll be in Venice. It should be a good night, with luck the first of more to come. The Skipper used to be a good pub, then went through a bad patch, but it seems back to the way it should be now.

One of the purposes of the gig, apart from a good evening, is to reclaim authentic music for our local pubs. Rather than the standard diet of Sky football and karaoke.

This brings back memories. The Essex Skipper was the first folk club I ever went to in the sixties when I was still at school. it was run then by Jim Bassett,(among others) whom I think went down to the West Country. Good luck with the concert. We try to get to the Lion at Eastwick on a Tuesday but as we live south of the river find that Blackwall Tunnel is always closed South bound at weekends and quite often lately in the week as well.

Jim Bassett does live in the West Country - Padstow. He told me that he opened the first folk club in Essex at the Essex Skipper in Harlow. Jim is still heavily involved in folk, both with the Cornish Festival and the Bodmin Folk Club.

I think he lives in St Merryn.

Is this a 'one-off' gig then?

All the best

You need to ask Simon Vogel if it's a one=off gig.

Jim Bassett lives in Padstow.

The gig is a one off, though one of a number in the Harlow area, organised this year by a small steering commitee. Previous gigs have been concert format. This will be in a pre-booked bar of a pub, so hoping to have a more informal atmosphere.

If the pub proves suitable, there may well be further events.

Everyone welcome

A limerick has been commisioned to publicise the event.

In Harlow, if you have a care
Will be beautiful music to spare Guitar and small pipes
It's wonderful, cripes
Great harmonies, get your arse there!

And passionate music, all night and all days
Will maybe be giving us something which stays

Or only the night, the same is the deal.
Giving us something, much more than we feel.

Jim Bassett lived in Padstow, Cornwall and ran the Bodmin folk club.

Jim passed away in October 2011 after many many years of heart issues.
His widow Barbera still lives there and he left 6 sons and one daughter that are known to be his offspring.
