Hi All:
I'm wondering if any one here knows the origin of the famous folksy ol' proverb:
"Sometimes I sits and thinks, sometimes I just sits."
I got no results in a search here; google shows that some attribute it to baseball great Satchel Page, but others don't. Any ideas??

I suspect it came from a toilet wall... it's where it's usually found.

It's from a Punch cartoon, a village idiot type character says "Sometimes I sits and sometimes I sits and thinks - but mostly I just sits."

Can't give you date or citation, but I'll have a look tomorrow if nobody else has.

Oxford Dictionary of Quotations gives it as "Sometimes I sits and thinks, and then again I just sits". Punch Vol 131, P297, 1906.

Punch was a humerous and satirical magazine in the UK which ran from 1841-2002.
