Hey, John, don't you think you should add some "clip-clop" sound effects to the MIDI for percussion? Giddy-up, Trigger!

Joe, I guess that you've found me out. I was raised at a time when hillbilly was popular - at least in the bush radio stations, and while it's not particularly couth to do so I still enjoy singing things like 'Tumbling Tumble Weeds', but never on stage and only if my wife and kids are out of ear-shot.

WANTED - A percussionist who can play those clip-clop cowbell things that old time drummers used to play. Meet me in a closet when my family is out of town. If we can fit I'll play guitar or double bass. Ability to sing outrageously high harmonies highly desirable.

PS Can you still buy guitar straps that have tassels on the end?

Regards John

Hey boys, NEVER get tired of those songs. I work as a Music Therapist in an intermediate care home. One of the gentleman that lives there used to play for a living here in Canada, played on the Tommy Hunter Show during the 50's & 60's. He had a stroke 5-6 years ago, couldn't play his steel anymore. Still has his voice though. 3-4 years ago he started joining me in the weekly singalongs that I do. Changed him considerably. Much more outgoing and involved now that he can connect with his past. Last Oct. we made a 'live' recording in the facility with some guest musicians. Boy, did he ever light up. Try this, take a cassette, take out the tape, the insert, sign the insert and put it back together. Now, do it with one hand. John was doing this during a garage sale we had at the facility. THere's determination for ya! Anyway, we recorded a bunch of those old "hillbilly songs" including Tumbling tumbleweeds, Happy trails, Boots and Saddles, Cool Water and Blue Moon. A Few others in there as well. It was a boost to his spirit. Send me an email address and I'll send you a midi or ra sample of the tape. You can send me a private message here. Anyway, keep singing, even in the closet, these are great songs!!!

Hi MusicMan - What a heart warming yarn, I had just the littlest tear in my eye as I read it. I'll get back to you about the RA as I haven;t quite got the technology for it yet - but will be delighted to do so.

Inspired by Joe I actually did some work on Tumbleweeds last night. Will post to a new thread later today. I considered Cool Water but thought it might be too far off target for this forum.

Many thanks John

For the record
-------------------------

HAPPY TRAILS
(Dale Evans)

Happy trails to you
Until we meet again;
Happy trails to you
Keep smilin' until then.

Who cares about the clouds if we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy Trails to you
Till we meet again.

note: This was the closing theme of "The Roy Rogers Show", on
TV 1951-1957 - Roy sang the first part and was joined by Dale and
a chorus for the last two lines. - ES
