Sheffield University Ceilidh Society are looking for a talented but as yet undiscovered eceilidh band to play for their first ceilidh of 2005 on Friday 4th February in Sheffield (UK). The idea is to offer a new and/or undiscovered band some exposure and performance experience (and find us a great new band to dance to :-)).

A bit about us: the Ceilidh Society runs ceilidhs every fortnight during university termtime, we get a (mostly) young and very enthusiastic crowd of around 100 to 150 people at our ceilidhs. For more details about us, see: http://www.ceilidhsoc.org

We can provide callers and PA for our visiting bands.

If anyone is interested in playing for us, or knows of anyone who might be, please PM me for more details. If you've got a demo CD you could send us or a website with sound clips of the band, we'd like to hear them.

(Sheffield CeilidhSoc Music Officer)

A mate of mine plays in a folk-rock band that have recently started performing as a ceilidh band. I've come in as relief guitarist on a couple of gigs and am here to tell you they're a bit good! If you're interested their website can be found at www.rackandruin.force9.co.uk/ The line-up (disregard the website for this as they've recently had some personnel changes that haven't founf their way into cyberspace yet!) is bass, drums, guitar, bouzouki and fiddle. They have their own caller and PA too!

As Banjo-flower said! The website for this talented band is in the pipeline but might take a little while yet. Sorry about that.

Rosianna Ceilidh Band is the band that Gerry plays in from Scunthorpe.

They were excellent with an audience of over 100 people last night for children in need. The variety of dance style was great.

They didn't need to ask people to get up and dance, they just did.

They have their own caller who is excellent and is a proper little live wire. I was very impressed with how he handled the situation. Some of the dances were pretty complex, and he kept his cool impressively and achieved with every dance. Top Notch

They also were the Ceilidh Band that were on at the Gainsborough Folk Festival and did an excellent job.

Macapella, a ceilidh band from Glasgow, are not exactly inexperienced but certainly undiscovered. I can provide contact if you're interested. Just PM me.

Thanks to everyone who replied. At the moment we've only got the one event coming up for which we need an outside band, but we'll bear everyone in mind for future gigs.

How do you spell pedantic? ;-) I mean a band that comes from outside the ceilidh society. We don't expect bands to play outdoors or anything...
