Subject: Pls Help Me With Non-US Radio Dist. List

I will be releasing a new CD in March '05. I'd like to have my worldwide radio distribution in the post during February. I have a pretty good idea about distribution in the US - but I could use some Mudcatter help determining what radio shows/hosts I should be reaching outside the US.

I can find long lists of stations worldwide ... I am interested in finding those stations, shows, hosts that you know about, and listen to - or have reason to believe would be a good fit.

I am especially interested in: UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand - but I'd consider any other places about which you have personal knowledge.

You can hear some quick loading sound files of last CD HERE and here. The new album is called MILES FROM HOME and is similar in musical style and content to my earlier CDs - except most of the new CD's tracks are original (The stories are often Irish/Scottish immigrants in US - some songs are Irish trad - the musical might be called Bluegrass/Celtic).

I am interested in both syndicated shows and small market shows. I am mostly interested in broadcast but would consider Internet radio carefully, if you have reason to believe it is worthwhile.

You don't need to go researching all the detail for me. I am sure I'll check each suggestion carefully. But if you can tell me the show or show host or radio station - and where it is - I'll find the rest.

I know there are radio threads available at Mudcat and I my research includes them too - right now what I'd like to know is; what radio shows are YOU listening to, interested in??

Thanks in advance for your help.

A PM to Mudcatter Strupag would be in order Jed, as he is involved in the running of a local radio station on the Isle of Skye, and I know he will play anything folkie he can get his hands on.

BBC Radio Scotland has three or four shows that might be interested -
Robbie Shepherd's Reel Blend
Archie Fisher
Celtic Connections

You'll find the addresses on the BBC Scotland web-site.

Try Two Lochs radio, Moray Firth Radio too

The Dept of Communications I believe should have a list of all the Radio Stations in Australia - they licence them! Their web site will be in the .gov.au range - possibly doc.gov.au

Try The ABC abc.net.au as they always seem to play a lot of different styles of music.

A show called 'The Planet' on Radio National - one of the ABC networks - comes to mind.

Paul MacKenzie - very popular daytime show often interviews performers with local gigs and invites them to sing a song to the mic
also

Mick Peat - folk programme networked throughout the midlands - both will mention a local gig

I thought there was a list somewhere on the internet of folk music programs on the radio, and contact information for same. I know that in the past I've gotten many CDs thanks to having my details on that list, but maybe it's defunct.

Anyway, Focus on Folk is broadcast on 2MBS-FM, 102.5, at 7pm on Saturday evenings in Sydney, Australia. If you have a CD you'd like considered for airplay, you can send it to
Focus on Folk, c/o Folk Federation of New South Wales, PO Box A182, Sydney South,
NSW 1235 Australia.

2MBS also broadcasts a World Music program at 4pm on Sunday afternoons. For the purposes of 2MBS - and *only* for the purposes of 2MBS - the distinction between folk music and world music seems to be that if it's in English or Gaelic it's folk music, if it's in any other language it's world music. How this applies to instrumentals in unclear. If you want the world music program to consider your CD for airplay (this wouldn't be the case for Jed Marum, from what I know of his music, but I imagine other people may be reading this thread), send it to Whirled Wide, c/o 2MBS, 76 Chandos Street, St Leonards 2065 Australia.

Jed, I collect the mail for the Folk Fed, & another committee member & occasional Mudcatter, Bruce from Bathurst also runs a folk program & would probably be interested in your CD.

I also have contacts for 2 folk programs in Canberra, one in Brisbane, one in Wollonging & 2 others in Sydney.

All I have to do is collect the info & PM it.

Thanks Sandra - I am very interested in developing more Australia contacts. I only have a few stations/shows there that I know about but they've all played the music - so I am hopeful that I could get more airplay if I could find more stations. If you're talking about Bruce Cameron, from Bathurst, he's already on my list and has been playing tracks from my earlier CDs.
