The purpose of the question in this thread escapes me.
Are we going to plan a Mudcat non-gather?
Or just trying to rile some people?

I got put off going to Sidmouth programmed events in the 70s and 80s because you had to queue for ages beforehand to get in and then stand or sit on the floor in discomfort. I'm looking forward to a less crowded Sidmouth next year.

With negativity like that, what makes you think they'll let you even think of going in 2005? :-))

This is a pointless thread in view of the comments that have already been posted on the other Sidmouth threads. Just another attempt to stir trouble and sabotage the efforts of everyone who is working for a good Sidmouth.

couldn't go next year anyway, so moot question for me. But I will be back the year after.

hey, Tim & Ann Giggs - that's a bit of a shame if you let a few vocal people on a message board influence you that much?! Surely you can see that all the people who make the effort to argue about such things online are a bit sad anyway (myself included!!!)?? The people who go along next year will be the people who 'make' the festival, not all the people who argue about it beforehand. And the vast bulk of those people won't be contributing to any discussions on mudcat.

HEY! SCOOBY DOO! What a Great Idea!

Whooopppeee! ANOTHER SIDMOUTH THREAD! God! This Festival is just SO BRILLIANT! I reckon that by 'The First Week In August' Sidmouth Folk Week 2005 could have THE MOST THREADS on Mudcat!

What a DREAM!!!!

And ALL my favourite people are on here too! There's yourself, Mr. and Mrs. Gigg, bless them!, Guest James H, (got him a little exasperated the other day! ;-)..) and Guest from Sidmouth too! Oh I have to go and lie down for a while, this happiness is just all too much!..................Ah! that's better!.....Now, where was I?

Oh Yes! Sidmouth......"To Go Or Not To Go? That Is The Question!"

Well I'm NOT going because I LIVE HERE!!! I know, isn't that great!! I don't have to 'go' because I'm already here! NOTHING would get me to ANY other Festival or Folk Week come August, not even YOU Scooby! :-) Besides, all the other Festivals run the risk of having all the Sidmouth Moaners attending!!

Still glad to know that Mr. and Mrs. Gigg aren't coming! Whew! They had me a bit worried there for a short space of time! :-) :-)
Really hope that El Greko, Steve Harris, Lynne and Kitty ARE coming though! :-) :-)

Wow! It's just so GOOD to see the Moaning People and the Sidmouth Soul Soaring Supporting People in this thread together!

GREAT IDEA SCOOBY!! Loved your two films by the way! Thought you were quite adorable in them both! Didn't realise you could write as well though, what a clever dog you are! WOOF!! WOOF!!

Oh and before you come woofing up to tell me I shouldn't be on this thread, I think I should because your question was 'Who is NOT going to Sidmouth 2005?' and as stated above, I'm NOT 'going' because I'm already here!

Enjoy your other Festival though. :-) :-) (Make sure they allow dogs first, mind, otherwise you could have a long drive for nothing!)

Lots of Love

Lizzie

Hmmmm thought this might be an interesting threads. But just the usual suspects. especially Mr and Mrs Giggs, so convincing. Quite why anybody should conceive a lifelong ambition to sabotage the attempts of people to enjoy themselves at a folk festival is beyond me. Mind you, I have never figured out what the Spanish Inquisition was for, either.

Lorient in Brittany always coincides with Sidmouth for one of its weeks - not that I've ever been. (I think you gotta like bagpipes and bombardes tho')
If I don't get to Sidmouth in 2005 it won't be for any of the negative reasons put forward by the snide snipers: it will just be that I can't take any more time off after having a prolonged break in the Antipodes earlier in the year. I shall do my best to get there even if for only part of the time, and i applaud heartily the efforts of those working to ensure that there WILL be a festival.

Oh Bums! Just come to Sidmouth and enjoy yourselves!!! You know you REALLY REALLY want to!

I've booked El Punkoid Nouveau on to my Dance Card!! (He doesn't know yet so don't tell him!) :0)

I think Jon and his wife should go on holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Gigg, they're made for each other. They'll have a great time!!!

Oh and 'Dear Tattie Bogle' I do hope that the break in your Antipodes has healed by next year! Gee! What a BAD place to get a break! ;0)

I think I've finally lost it you know! In fact I think we've all finally lost it!!! :0) By The First Week in August, the whole Country will have come to a grinding standstill as people all over the Nation are abandoning their work to spend hours visiting bizarre Sidmouth Threads on Mudcat!

Great Fun though isn't it!! I'm just a little worried about my sanity
that's all!! :0) :0)

In fact I think at this rate the entire Country might just turn up next year!

Lizzie

PS DARE I ask what a 'bombarde' actually is?? :0)

Ooh! El Greko! You mean MEANIE!!!!! :0)

You're just trying to stop me talking AGAIN aren't you? ;0) Hurruuumph! AND to think I had you on my Sidmouth 2005 Dance Card along with El Punkoid!!

Nope! I'm sorry! You just DON'T have a way with the Girlies! It's no good! I've crossed you off my list and I'm going off to cry REAL tears!! My heart is quite, quite broken!! AND I was just about to get an air ticket to follow you out to Australia and catch your 'tour'.....but NO! that's it, it's all off!

I'm dancing with Michaelangelo next year down on the Seafront and that's all there is to it! See if I care! I'll bet he won't mind me talking and going on and on and on and.............! He'll tell me all about your paintings AND what you got up to 400 years ago in Venice! Why! HE might even PAINT me!!

Besides, even 'seered' didn't try and blow me up!!! (Tried almost EVERYTHING else though!! :0)....)

Lizzie :0)

PS: Do you have any of your paintings left with your new El Greko signature on rather than your old El Greco one? I think they could be worth a fortune!! If you found it in your heart to send one my way, I just might be able to forgive you!!! :0);0)

But, before we dance, could you just set Spot the Dog onto Fritz the Cat for me? He's a mean and rabid cat, follows me round and froths everywhere!

El Greko 4 EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Add our family to the list of people not going to Sidmouth in 2005.

We've had a wonderful time there over the years and would prefer to remember Sidmouth at its best.

You only have to read the posts all over Mudcat to realise any event in 2005 will be a poor substitute for what has gone before.

All very sad.

I'm torn between the idea that an all-fringe unofficial festival might be fun, and a belief that the only way to have a chance of getting Sidmouth back is going to be if the local economy takes a real hammering this year.

I'm inclined to think that boycotting the place is probably the choice I'll opt for.

Ideally I think I'd like a festival in the form of a picketline.

Might be the right time for The Flying Pickets to re-form?

I share the McGrath view that the Sidmouth traders and Council need to experience a year with NO festival if we are to have any chance of getting sufficient funding for a proper festival again in future years.

And before Lizzie and others accuse me of being negative, I'm not. I'm positive Sidmouth can rise from the ashes but, like Glastonbury a few years ago, a year with no festival may mean a much better festival in the longer term.

"I share the McGrath view that the Sidmouth traders and Council need to experience a year with NO festival if we are to have any chance of getting sufficient funding for a proper festival again in future years"

So, suppose you boycot 2005 and the council and traders still don't pay up? Will you boycott 2006 too? Maybe a tradition will grow up of a picket line on the main road, I can see it now:

Picket1: What do we want?????
Picket2: Your money!!!!
Folkie: Er, I paid for my ticket months ago!
Picket1: That's Ok comrade! Not you. We thought you were one of the running dogs of the imperialist paper tigers wot is a Sidmouth trader [spit]
Folkie: Oh I see, there's a Potbury's van behind!
Picket2: So there is - BLACKLEG!
Potbury's Driver: Oh Ar wots up?
Picket1: People like you are depriving us folkies of our god given right to a festival! Your firm makes thousands out of the festival and gives nothing back!
Potbury's Driver: Well, I've never had to deliver furniture to that there camp site not any of the B&Bs. We'z a bit posh see - we did sell a comode to the Victoria back in 1983.
Picket2: You're opressing us!!!!!
Potbury's Driver: Dunno about that me lover, but I'm holding up a queue of campervans, 2CVs and Range Rovers so I better move on!

And Dear Mr. McGrath....I think that next year is just going to be SENSATIONAL FUN! We can all do what we want, it's just BUMS TO EVERYONE next year! Let your hair down and have a whale of a time! Watch the sun go down over Peak Hill and the Rock Islands turn from grey to vibrant red, whilst holding the Girl Of Your Dreams and munching on The Best Fish and Chips this side of The Tamar Bridge!
AND there's new Landlords in The Anchor, it's being all painted up!

I'm beginning to think that 'True Blue' Lizzie from Sidmouth is linked to 'True Blue' Councillor Stuart Whatshisname and all the other 'True Blue' Sidmouth residents/councillors/traders who keep insisting on this Board that there will be a Festival in 2005.

Lizzie (or Stuart or Steve Harris) can post away but they won't fool any of us.

We can see they just want us to turn-up so they can get us to spend our hard-earned cash in Sidmouth again.

There will be NO Sidmouth Festival next year. There will be some singarounds, pub sessions and maybe even a dance or two in a church hall somewhere on the outskirts of town. But NO Ham Marquee. No Bowd Marquee. No international shows in the Arena. No well-organised campsite. No special bus service. No 'Shooting Roots' workshops. No Late Night Extra. None of the things that made the Sidmouth Festival so special.

So stop trying to con us Lizzie (Stuart, Steve Harris).

Admit you're more interested in making money for the Sidmouth traders - the same traders who gave so little money to support the Festival.

Lynne, if you want Sidmouth to work why don't you ask Lizzie to stop alienating people? She's starting feuds left, right and centre or haven't you noticed that yet? I have no idea why you encourage her. You and the other people organising the festival should get her to do something useful, rather than chasing threads up and down mudcat. There's a lot more to running a festival than leaving increasingly incoherant messages.

As one of "those", who can't for the life of me recall asking anyone to help me dissociate myself from her postings, may I respectfully suggest that you confine yourself to stating your own opinion, as such, and refrain from trying to associate us with same.

Lizzie's style may not be to everyone's taste, but she is preserving a positive attitude, in the face of the many thread hijackers with their own "Let's destroy it if we can't have it our way" agenda.

Perhaps we could prevail upon you to enlighten us as to the effort, other than Lizzie Watching, that you have contributed toward preserving what you profess to love?

Good ol' Pete Grassby: he repaired my first button accordion overnight: don't know how much midnight oil that took!
But he doesn't have a "hall" Lynne: he sets up in any otherwise vacant shop, so you maay have to search him out. One year he was down fairly near the sea front, another year up opposite the old fire station. Worth the search, though: last year he was handing out ice-creams to anyone who would take 'em!

Don....don't worry...NOTHING these 'Guests' can say hurts or upsets me. I've just posted over on the 'Sidmouth is Open' thread too about it.

They are mostly a small group of people who are deeply determined to stop Sidmouth, they also loathe me for various reasons of their own. They're been doing similar things, although obviously not to the same extent that they can over here, on Radio 2 for many, many months now, because I disagree with their suppression campaign of various folk and acoustic artists which is going on over there.

Totally ignore them, just scroll on by...their nasty words are left there for everyone to see and gasp over, whilst your words and others also, will be the ones who bring people to Sidmouth.

The threads are all turning around now and therefore it is bound to start getting nastier again, as they become more outraged about the fact that Sidmouth is taking place.

Let the hatred just fly away. Keep the Spirit of Sidmouth alive.

Thank you for your kind words though Don.

I can now reveal Lizzie is the Sidmouth 2005 Director of Quality Control - Audience quality that is! As we know, one of the biggest problems with Sidmouth was that miserable boring people have been not only allowed in, they've even been allowed to STAY without smiling!

We know who these people are - there's 11 of them. Someone suggested just writing to the miseries and telling them not to come but it was pointed out that it would probably infringe their Human Rights, and worse still, it would cost several pounds in stamps.

That's when Lizzie offered to fix it ...

Rhyzla,

I post on the BBC F&A board, I think it's a good enough board, I'd certainly say it's a good place to start, if you're new to folk.

Lizzie has been quite annoying on the beeb board lately. I don't go to Sidmouth and hadn't read all the threads on here till recently but having read some of them now I think she was letting all this upset get to her.

I hope eventually she finds her way back, or finds a better direction for her energy and enthusism. Mudcat is a broad river, the bbc board is like a wee stream in comparison, sometimes Lizzie was like a flood, washing everything else away.

I don't think I'm putting this very well, I had posted a message which I think she may feel is an attack on her and I'm a bit worried that she's OK. However I've tried to approach her privately before and had my fingers burned so I just have to live with my actions and wish her well.

FIONA!!! How LOVELY to see you on this thread! ;0)

Luckily all your erm....'sweet words'to me are still over on all sorts of threads on the Radio 2 board for anyone to read, as I believe in free speech and don't ask for things to be taken off boards, no matter how ugly or totally untrue they might be.

I'm as right as rain though thanks Fiona! Don't you worry over me my sweetums! LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!!!!!!   Oh Shame!!!! TOO LATE! ;0)

'Guest Chris'....now then, on Mudcat anyone can post as anyone, unfortunately, so I'm not sure if you're really Chris from the BBC board or not.....(BBC Chris is a nice person guys!)...anyway...take a look in the Sidmouth Sunshine and Sparkles thread, scroll down to a lady called 'Countess Richard' and read a few of her sweet comments.
They might seem a little familiar as she 'yawn' so often says things like that to me.....does the name errr.... 'Diane' ring a bell?

The good news is though that despite all the downright nastiness, the hurt and the upset that Sidmouth 2005 has triggered....it is now well on it's way to happening and nothing can stop it! I just let all the nasty words slide right off.....if people want to believe them....well...shows me what kind of people they are in the first place. I'm very happy with who I am.

Sidmouth is FAR more important than anything that has happened on this thread.

No Fiona....it's not threatening at all.....someone else earlier on the thread was mentioning me being 'paranoid'....just a touch of humour....I've put words like that on the Radio 2 board before now as well, where I poke fun at myself and your opinions of me...it sort of implies...."Hey there's nothing wrong with me....Look Out!" all said in a joking way, as always.

I don't recall ever 'burning your fingers' by they way Fi.....NEVER! I didn't start any of this at all. I've just sat back and not said one word about all the things that you have put down about me. Can't fault me there I'm afraid. And as for Longdogs...well you were made to feel exceptionally welcomed there, you know you were. They are all lovely people and they don't understand all this either. I have left Longdogs because of all this, as it's not fair to bring all this to a fantastic music site.

When I lost my father Fi...I just put my head down and sobbed until there wasn't one tear left to come, until there was literally nothing left.....and then the healing took place. I'm not ashamed to put that on here.

If all this has been started because of your father dying, then I'm very sorry for how it is making you feel. Honestly though, crying it out is the most healthy way forwards. It's best for everyone. I'm not to blame....I've been there and I know how badly it hurts, but please don't aim it all at me. It's not my fault. I've never said anything to hurt you....have I? Well....apart from sounding a bit ratty above, but that is hardly surprising is it after what you have been saying lately? Be fair.

I'm sorry to put this on here, but maybe it needs to be said out in the open. As I said to you on Radio 2....I haven't changed Fi...I'm still just as I was.....you may choose not to like me as I am...but that's me I'm afraid. If you choose to believe what Diane says about me, well, that really is up to you. Diane has never met me, just taken it upon herself to vilify me because I have dared to stand up to her and BOY! haven't I been made to suffer for that!! "Racist! Facist!" You name it....I've been called it....and what for really Fiona? Because I love the music of Show of Hands? Sheesh!!!!!

Find peace Fiona......you HAVE to! But you have to do it on your own, we all have to at some point in our lives. I wish you well. I truly hope you find peace.

Lizzie

It is hard to say 'thank you' after all that you have said to me in the past. However, 'thank you' for reassuring Fiona that my words were not threatening at all and that she was over-reacting.

As for the rest of your post....well...just 'business' as usual I guess! ;0)

Still....it will soon be The First Week of August and I shall definitely be going to as many things as possible in Sidmouth this year. Really looking forward to it!

There we go....back on thread! Hopefully we can now leave all this upset behind and get on with just looking foward to whichever festivals we are going to.

Hope you enjoy yours Diane.

I went out to the local military supplies place yesterday and bought a military quality waterproof cape. Unfortunately camoflage - but not the urban sort - I have most things already for Sidmouth, but I added that just in case. Nothing is going to stop me, not even the weather.

So I am going to be there come Hell or high water.

I am far too buzy to keep reading about all that is being written on
the subject of this years Sidmouth, so do not know if my offer to teach long morris will even be a necessary fall back in the scheme of things.

I am going to be at Sidmouth and I am bringing my drum!!

Any who will be there - you have been warned.

Has anyone said(written) anything about Sidmouth 06 yet?

From what has been written about the planning of 05 the plans for 06 should be well on with by now. Are they all sub rosa or can the hacking to pieces begin now? Then all who so wish can exhaust every last aspect of them in good time before the actual event.

Appreciated? Well, I might be if people didn't have to wade through mountains of off-topic, binge-posting to read what I have to say @ the beeb. FWIW, I've posted both there and here for far longer than Mr Fagpaper Hunt (who has inserted himself onto the Sidmouth '05 bill at a time when nothing else was supposed to happen till next year) and his inamorata, the supposed Sidmouth resident, though I generally look in here nowadays only when I'm told someone is talking about me. As far as Lizzie-of-the-multiple logins is concerned, I was convinced originally that she was an invention of the Smooth Operations production office but have concluded that even they wouldn't waste so much time on blanket bilge. My concerns about this person (apart from being a monumental pain in the arse) are threefold:

(1) dumbing down of a) a festival which I have known and loved since well before s/he - if s/he even exists - ever heard of it or came to live in its proximity, if s/he does, and b) the overall perception of traditional/roots music by waffling on about acts which are anything but (e.g. The Corrs, Simply Red . . . need I say more?)   Obviously, people are free to like whatever music they like. I, for example, like many different genres including pre-renaissance, baroque, former Portuguese African, Scandinavian fiddle (even some Springsteen and Petty who s/he professes to like) but refrain from talking about them where it's not appropriate.

(2) damage being done to the careers of a growing number of artists (who I do not necessarily endorse but feel sorry for them) because this "Lizzie Cornish" person rabbits on about them in such an embarrassing way that they cringe in corners just in case s/he ever turns up at their gigs).

(3) possibly most importantly, how s/he impinges upon the civil liberties of people who are personally known to me (though not him/her). Of most relevance here is the way in which the death of Fiona's father (and she specifically requested that this should not become a matter of forum discussion) has been splashed across the boards (as it were) by this Cornish person. This is appallingly insensitive behaviour.

To return to topic, I've no idea if I'll be @ Sidmouth '05. Various bands that I know will be (if it actually happens) zooming in and out. This to me is totally contradictory to the spirit of Sidmouth as it was when we stayed all week. Many made it their annual holiday.   This is what some of us criticise. We can do without unrelenting, uninformed earbashing from someone who knows fuck all about anything.

So.....I guess I'm not on your Christmas Card list then Diane? ;0)

Sheesh!!!! You mean you might be COMING to Sidmouth this year??
After ALL those terrible things you've said on here and Radio 2 about it? After ALL you've done to try and scupper it? After ALL those foul words that you've put on here about Sidmouth and the good people who are GOING to save it, who have battled on through the most appalling torrent of abuse and nastiness that I have EVER seen? And now YOU are actually thinking of turning up and taking part????? HOW do you sleep at nights? HOW hypocritical! But WHY doesn't that surprise me?

And your pal Fiona? As I said above I wish her well. But please do not expect me to sit back quietly anymore and not say anything.

If you loved Sidmouth so much WHY did you NOT see that between the hurt and anger something SO PRECIOUS was at stake? If you loved Sidmouth SO much WHY did you not try to save it? If you loved Sidmouth SO much WHY did (and still do) you choose to bring your words of hatred to it? You made your decision to walk away with that hatred in your heart, as can still be seen from your posts above.

Well Sweetums, I and many others chose to support it on here. We've all put up with sheer hell from you and your buddies at times....but we've all kept together and kept on going! And if you don't like that.....TOUGH!

And as for all your usually foul words about me in your two messages above Diane....well I'm just so glad that I don't have those feelings in my heart. You say what you want, infer whatever you want.
As good old Rhett Butler always says..."Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!" I think you obviously need to listen to more Show of Hands to calm you down! ;0)

The people who have really saved Sidmouth are of course, the very people still working so hard and making it all happen....all those people on the Sidmouth Folk Week Committee who are TOTALLY committed, many of them have been involved in Sidmouth before, many of them are totally new and just 'wanted to help'.....but they all have one aim in mind.....to make Sidmouth LIVE again! They WILL achieve that too Diane....and THAT is what is getting to you I think!

YOU who SO loved Sidmouth!

Well Sidmouth has many, many people who STILL love it Diane...and they always will do, they did not walk away...they come running towards it! They will make it work BECAUSE of that love....and it is that VERY love that has given Sidmouth its' breath back again!

I sincerely hope you enjoy Sidmouth 2005 Diane.

I sincerely hope that some of Sidmouth's love rubs off on you.

Lizzie

Glad to hear you're coming to Sidmouth 'Rumcoke' Anne above. Hope you enjoy yourself! Great to hear 'the drum' is coming too! Sidmouth needs a bit of 'drumming' going on....you can hear a pin drop the rest of the year round here....but one of the things I really enjoy is lying in bed late at night and hearing all music drifting around the town and just going down to the seafront and sitting watching it all happening around me....all the way along The Esplanade hundreds of people all playing different instruments and it all blends in together and makes for the most marvellous sound.

It's terrible when you all go home again!

'Tam' I don't drive either and I agree with you, public transport costs a bomb....but luckily I live here. Maybe we both need to learn to drive. Then I could visit festivals where you are and you could come down here! ;0)

If there is one consistency in the binge-post ramblings of Ms Cornish it is an ongoing inability to grasp basic grammar: infer for imply yet again . . . Latin irregular verbs well and truly on the blink. As for the misuse of the apostrophe, absolutely no improvement. Shocking. It may be explained, though not excused, by geographical location; I won't be sending a Christmas card a) because I don't b) because I don't know upon which planet s/he is situated and c) I am unacquainted (thank god) with him/her anyway.

Should I (or any of my friends, none of whom are personally known to him/her), happen to pass through Sidmouth on our way from A to B this year, it will be purely because people we know are performing, if it happens. This is absolutely none of his/her goddam business, nor will it be if we return to Sidmouth in the future if ever the festival is restored to the format we prefer. Personally, I have never said anything against people attempting to do whatever they want this year (other than to question the timescale and logistics). The reality is that what will result (if anything) is not of much interest to me or others.

Diane....how do you always manage to mention Latin irregular verbs at just the right time! This happened on Radio 2 as I remember....'Himself' disappeared about an hour ago to go and watch 'The Reverbs' down at The Balfour Inn. It's amazing....I think it's a sign! I DO! ;0) They really do exist, just as I do....you can phone The Balfour Inn tomorrow and check up if you don't believe me.

Hmmmm....The Latin Irregular Verbs....now they were a good folk band weren't they?

I've never been 'shocked' by an apostrophe....not unless it was a Latin one! The Oxford comma always gets me in a state though, and another thing......People who use !!!! in all the wrong places should be ! made ! to ! leave the country ! ;0)

Aw...no Chrissy Card then! You meanie!

Erm.....don't want to be pedantic about your grammar Old Girlie, BUT would you PLEASE always remember to give God a capital G. That is always an important one to get right in my opinion.

It's true, I don't know you or your friends,(Phew! Wipes sweat from forehead! ;0)..) but Fiona did mention that she had become friendly with you recently, in a PM to me in Longdogs. She said you were very nice too. That's good then. ;0)

I would just like to point out that despite all your comments in the Negative Tense, the prospect of a Sidmouth 2006 may never even have happened WITHOUT Sidmouth 2005. The profits of this year are going into next year, by the way, as you well know. There have also been a lot of people working towards 2006, these people are the very ones who have worked so hard to ensure 2005 takes place and who have not received ONE word of thanks or encouragement from you for saving a festival which apparently is so dear to you and your friends.

Oh and by the way.....there is nothing to stop you or your friends staying the whole week and supporting Sidmouth 2005.....just your desire not to that's all.

From You: << Personally, I have never said anything against people attempting to do whatever they want this year (other than to question the timescale and logistics). The reality is that what will result (if anything) is not of much interest to me or others. >>

Now then....where's my dictionary again...don't want to mispell the word HYPOCRITE and risk upsetting you do I? ;0)

Lizzie,

your frivolous discussion of my fathers death is beneath contempt.

As you know I've stopped replying to you on the R2 board and I won't reply to you here either.

I would be grateful if others on this thread did not make this a topic for discussion.

I've just got a flyer for Sidmouth, courtesy of Hobgoblin. It's professionally produced and the line up looks good enough for any festival. There are foreign acts there, even if only from the USA and Scotland.

So, someone is sure enough of the festival to lay out money for flyers and Hobgoblin are sure enough to do the mailing and sponsor various concerts. I think it's going to happen, don't you?

Thanks for putting that on.

Woops! Sorry.....lost my name there as I've come in through 'the back door' today, so have appeared as a 'guest' above. However have come in through the right way now!

Fiona....read my post again, there is nothing 'frivolous' in it, just good wishes to you and a hope that everything sorts itself out.

I never once mentioned anything over on Radio 2, you did. I merely referred to someone coming over to Longdogs and being unnecessarily insulting. That was all. No names....no subject. You can be check it back if you don't remember.

I never once mentioned anything on Longdogs, you did. For some odd reason you chose to do this in 'Live Chat' amongst a lot of kind people who didn't know what was happening, myself included. You received nothing but kindness from them and from me.

I brought it up here to wish you well, try to sort it out, put things in perspective and to finally say 'enough is enough'. I would have thought that messageboards were the last place you wanted to be at a time like this, particularly when you put down such stinging words about people. It does not become you at all. But if that's what makes you happy....so be it.

I do not know you.....I do not want to know you I'm afraid and it is of no importance to me whatsoever if you reply or not....honestly.

However, the one thing that does now mean something to me, which it did not at the time, was when in a PM to me on Longdogs, you mentioned to me that you had once got into a messageboard argument with someone which became very nasty. I thought at the time that you meant you had been the victim....but now I'm afraid I have changed my view, as you have launched into me for no reason whatsoever.

This is my final word on the subject as I'm sure everyone is fair fed up with it all. Thank you.

And now folks....back to Sidmouth and 'Who is not Coming?'...although I think a new thread entitled 'Who IS coming to Sidmouth?' would be more appropriate now.

Lizzie

I really must take exception to the description of Countess Richard's words as "crap".

The correct wording would be "cat poo"

What a pity that some people, like Countess Richard and Fionna seem to have to shout rude words in public places and attack people in an open forum. It seems to me that there are a lot of sick folk around who cannot survive without messing up other people's fun.

I've made a resolution to let 'em rant. I'll only answer posts that have relevance, or a little humour, preferably good humour.

It's a terrible strain, but I'm managing so far.

I have looked at the festival guide and looked at the cost of the camping and talked it over with my family and we came to the conclusion that Eastleigh was better for us as a family to beable to do individual things than Sidmouth. But i wish Sidmouth well.

And that's the problem Mr. Harris sir.

The Folk Week this year looks likely to be well-supported by people who come more to participate than watch but the people who come to watch will be far fewer in numbers because the big arena shows and international artists they enjoyed watching are no longer involved.

Sidmouth may well become little more than an annual gathering of singers, musicians and dancers. Nothing wrong with such a gathering but there are many similar gatherings.

Without the arena and the international aspect there is nothing to make Sidmouth stand out from the crowd.

Reading all these posts, I have realised that we don't, any of us have much idea what proportion of those who are going want Sidmouth to return to its former style, and what proportion want it to be smaller, and performer oriented.

So I'm about to start a thread to find out.

Look out for it later today under the heading

"Sidmouth 2005 attenders"

Hopefully we will learn that most want the old Sidmouth back (as do I), but at least we'll know for sure.

......Go Live in Budleigh Salerton!!!!

If you can't see what makes Sidmouth so special, even with a smaller Folk Week, then you're living in the wrong place mate!

Good idea of yours Don....have already been on your new thread.

Sidmouth - and all festivals - have changed over the years from being largely a spectator sport to being participant based; witness the huge programme of workshops available for those who want to learn or enhance their playing skills or singing. In all the years I have been to Sidmouth, there has been an explosion in terms of people buying and carrying instruments about - and sometimes even playing them! We are not dealing with a static situation!
